Our new Applied Shipbuilding Academy in Glasgow has officially opened 🚢 Designed to develop the entire workforce - from new starters to senior leaders, the academy will help ensure Scottish shipbuilding has a thriving workforce for generations to come. Comprising of a Modern Trade Hall and a Flexible Learning Hub, the academy offers a high quality, hands-on training environment where learners are fully immersed in realistic ship mock-ups as well as over 30 teaching spaces, a cutting-edge science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) innovation lab and an exhibition & conference space. The Applied Shipbuilding Academy is a key element of the £300m transformation of BAE Systems' shipbuilding facilities in Glasgow which will significantly contribute to the modernisation of city’s historic shipbuilding industry. #HMSMiddleton has successfully completed her six week Deployed Docking Period in Bahrain with an overlaid Capability Insertion Period. Collaboration between BAE Systems, Royal Navy and The Bahrain Ship Repairing and Engineering Company BSC ensured essential maintenance was completed to keep her mission-ready. Nathan Bowley, Project Manager said : “The recent in-region support provided to Middleton further demonstrates the effectiveness of deploying our platform experts to oversee work packages delivered by regional commercial partners to deliver our customers operational requirements.” #ProudtoSupport #StrategicDeployment

We were delighted to meet Gareth, William, Ian and team from the Glasgow Humane Society and see the new safety rail and lights on their rescue boat, which our recent donation has provided. Based only minutes from our two yards, the Glasgow Humane Society do incredible voluntary lifesaving work along the River Clyde - and with these upgrades, now both of their rescue boats can operate safely at any time of the day or night. Just one of many local community charities and organisations we are proud to support through our #community investment fund. #SocialImpact

Last week, our #apprentices welcomed Men's Shed Govan members to the opening of our ‘Shipyard Sanctuary’ in our Scotstoun Yard. A place for colleagues to have time out, the area has been designed and created with help and knowledge from the Shed members. They also very kindly donated two beautiful handmade deckchairs. Working with our #community is really important to our business and our colleagues, and this is just one of many projects we encourage and support our people to actively participate in. “It’s been a delight to work with the apprentices on this project. Their ideas and ingenuity have been creative and impressive and I’m so glad that Men’s Shed Govan has been a part of it. We are very honoured. Our new ship build hall that will transform shipbuilding in Glasgow has officially been named the Janet Harvey Hall. Janet was one of the many women who took on industrial jobs when the country needed them most during the Second World War.
