BDA Work Ready Programme

I had the pleasure of hosting a British Dietetic Association (BDA) Work Ready webinar today, where Frankie Phillips spoke to colleagues at Quorn Foods about how our food choices can help us get the most out of the working day. When it comes to what we eat, pragmatism is key (especially when we are all leading such busy lives) and there are many simple steps people can take to improve their diet, such as drinking more fluid ☕ 🥛 & snacking smart 🍉 🥕 🌰 to help improve our performance in all aspects of our lives. It's all too easy to get caught up in the negative media messages when it comes to food, when that is just not helpful! Instead, focus on what we should be eating more of (fruit, veg, wholegrains) to make healthy and sustainable eating easier, rather than focusing on the negatives. So, if you've not had a Work Ready dietitian come speak to your team yet about how we can all eat that little bit smarter, I'd highly recommend it! It was great to see everyone sharing their experiences & top tips for good nutrition as well as see the high level of engagement in the topic and receive so many questions. You could ask - what can be done in 30mins but I demonstrated/prepared 2 breakfast ideas, one lunch idea and 3 different snack bars. All of which the employees get to taste test themselves. Ok, so it may not feel much like Summer and it certainly doesn't seem very warm yet. Making sure we are adequately hydrated is one of the easiest ways to find immediate health benefits both physically and mentally. Keeping hydrated is so important, and we know that being dehydrated affects our performance at work, leading to headaches and poor concentration in particular. Extra fluid will be needed if it is hot or if you are working in a hot environment. Water is the best fluid of course. Other fluids do count but if you can, stick with plain water. Maybe add some sliced fruit for flavour. I often come across misconceptions when it comes to fluids, so it is worth ensuring the advice comes from a registered dietitian or registered nutritionist.
