📢Exciting news! We are thrilled to announce the launch of BESA #NextGen Network, we are a group dedicated to supporting those starting careers in the building services sector. At BESA, we understand the challenges that engineers face as they navigate the early stages of their careers. That's why we have created this group to provide a supportive community, and networking opportunities for those just starting out in the sector. Ryan Walton MInstR, Chair of the Network has said “It is a real honour and a great opportunity to work with my fellow young engineers through this exciting initiative,” he said. “We have a lot to offer the Association and the wider industry, but it is often hard for us to make our collective voice heard." “It can also be an intimidating experience for younger people to network with older, more experienced engineers, particularly when they are just finding their feet in the industry. So, we believe having our own community will help us develop our own priorities and then use BESA’s established and respected platform to help shape the industry’s agenda.” So if you're new to the industry, whether you're an engineer, or working hard behind the scenes, we invite you to join us and be part of the #NextGen and together, we can inspire and connect the next generation of building service professionals. Stay tuned for more #NextGen updates 👀 Find out more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/e5wXtfcq #BESA #BuildingServices #NextGen Panasonic Heating & Cooling Solutions Europe

I’m thrilled to share that I was a finalist in the Rising Star category at the Trade Association Forum Awards last night. Being shortlisted was truly an honour and, above all, recognition of the hard work I have put in over the last four years at BESA—from helping to implement Virtual Reality into our events to supporting the BESA NextGen Network, completing my apprenticeship, and working on my CIM. I just want to thank Natalie Tunnicliffe, Claire Short, Shaun Coughlan, and the rest of the team at BESA for believing in me and for your continued support! And you know, Lady Gaga wasn’t even nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys, and she’s gone on to have a semi-decent career, so I’m feeling really positive about the future, and I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities ahead! 💪 I am however, incredibly proud to say that BESA Group won the Member Engagement Award, recognising our work in creating resources, campaigns, and initiatives to help BESA members understand and comply with the #BuildingSafetyAct. A huge congratulations to Rachel Davidson, the team, and the Building Safety Act Advisory Group on this success—it’s fantastic to see your efforts making a real impact on awareness and compliance across the sector.

Mould and damp are not just an eye sore, they represent a significant national crisis affecting the UK. Currently, hundreds of thousands of homes are battling with damp, impacting millions of individuals who are exposed to toxic air night after night. This leads to respiratory issues, kids coughing, their parents wheezing and unfortunately lives being cut short. Let's not pretend this affects everyone the same. It doesn't. It disproportionately affects the poorest and most vulnerable, this disparity is not a matter of chance but a reflection of ingrained inequality within the housing infrastructure. Indoor environmental quality encompasses the air we breathe, the warmth we experience, and the moisture levels within our homes. When these factors are bad, the consequences can be deadly. Poor indoor conditions exacerbate health issues like asthma, COPD, and childhood breathing problems, costing the NHS over £1.4 billion annually. Beyond health, this is also a legal issue. Here's the truth, we have laws, we have standards and we have the Building Safety Act. But if no one is going to enforce them, what's the point? BESA has long been associated with competence, compliance, and accountability. However, there is a pressing need to integrate indoor environmental quality into EPC ratings, demand stronger ventilation standards across all buildings, and enforce existing laws to ensure no one is left behind. This isn't about ticking boxes, it's about people. It's about making sure where you live doesn't decide how long you live. The data is clear, the consequences are deadly, and the solution is within reach. Immediate action is required to manage and rectify the problem. By doing so, not only are buildings improved, but lives are also saved.
