Using FixMyStreet to track surface defect issues. The Hadden Hill Story
About us
THE BRITMIX METHOD proven to permanently fix the pothole problem The solution: Britmix® and the Britmix® MethodTM Britmix® pothole repair mix is different; effectively it’s a hot mixed asphalt that’s applied cold. Standard cold asphalt repair products rely on retarders to prevent the asphalt setting when cooled. This results in a repair that’s weaker than the surrounding asphalt. In contrast, the additives in Britmix® cause it to harden immediately on compaction, allowing immediate trafficking. And, when laid using the Britmix® Method it will protect the surrounding surface, prolonging the service life between interventions

Thinking for the long term...requires leadership.
🌟What is the importance of leadership in the roads sector?🌟 As a sector, our shared vision is to enable better and safer journeys for our customers. To do this successfully, we need to be guided by strong leadership and meaningful collaboration across the value chain. At Roads Academy, leaders from across the sector work collaboratively to learn, develop their skills and create solutions to challenges such as biodiversity, productivity and Health & Safety. Through our engagement with sector leaders at our Value Hubs, it is apparent that leading by example and fostering positive working environments are key levers for the betterment of our sector and the positive experience of teams and customers. 👉 Darren James, CEO of Keltbray Infrastructure Services, shares : "If you are an effective leader, you will have people who follow you. If they follow you on driving critical improvements, such as productivity, that's what we want to see from the future leaders in the sector and this is why Roads Academy is very powerful." 👉 Nicole Preston MSc IEng MICE, Programme Productivity Director at Lower Thames Crossing, summarises: "As leaders, we must exhibit the positive behaviours we hope to see in others. Recognising and respecting the needs of our team members is crucial. Leading by example, I strive to understand and meet my team's unique needs, fostering a happy, motivating environment." 👉 Sven Till, Managing Director at A E Yates Ltd., expresses: “By building leadership capability in the sector, we’re creating a universal language which means we can communicate with each other more effectively. The skills that leaders learn on Roads Academy are being translated down throughout the value chain.” 🔗 Do you want to be part of the legacy we are creating? DEALING WITH POTHOLES - A grown-up conversation is needed. It’s universally acknowledged that many of our roads are in a dire state of repair. Nationally, a whopping 86% are dissatisfied with the number of potholes. (source NHT Public Satisfaction Report – well worth a look) Forget the political posturing as there is a similar problem across all the main parties. (in fact, no overall control seems to yield the best results at the moment 😊) Let’s apply the Start Stop Continue methodology: What does work? Well-planned preventative maintenance is universally accepted as the best, cheapest and most effective method – so we continue with this. What needs to start? Proactive interventions (with early intervention) rather than reactive ones. What needs to stop. Reactive interventions and short life repair systems. Before you all howl ‘We can’t afford it!’ Just consider. You can’t afford not to. You have to stop using the most expensive, dangerous and wasteful way of maintaining roads now, if you are going to make progress. I am convinced that every LHA has people on their teams who want to make a difference. Speak to us. Better roads for everyone. Fix First Time, every time.

Prevention is better than cure! Unfortunately, we are too late to prevent them (potholes) on most of the network. However, if we are to get back on top of the problem, we need to invest massively in preventative treatments. You may be interested that Britmix is a most effective localised repair system that can economically prepare a road for surface dressing without the need for costly excavations. It is also fully compatible with bitumen surface dressings and will prevent repairs breaking through the surface dressing at joint lines.
