The built environment consumes 40% of all resources globally, generally following the take-make-waste linear economy. By contrast, the circular economy in the built environment is a systems-based industrial framework designed to tackle global sustainability challenges, such as climate change, waste, and biodiversity loss. Join the National Institute of Building Sciences webinar next week: The Circular Economy - A Pathway To Net Zero. Featuring: 🔹August Nazareth, MBA, Circular Economy, Global Director of Built Environment, Americas - BSI 🔹Rabia Charef, Researcher - Circular Economy & Digitalization Expert - Architect - Lancaster University The interactive session will explore the key elements of the circular economy and why it is a resilient and timely system that is good for business, people, and the environment. 64% of companies in the Built Environment sector think the industry is using data well across the asset life cycle, according to BSI's recent survey. While this is reasonably consistent across different regions, it can vary from the boardroom to operations. Our global thought leadership campaign, launching in September, brings together perspectives from across the built environment life cycle, exploring how collaboration can help the journey to net zero. 💬 "Digitalization is the future, and everyone seems to be on board. But what's in it for the trailblazers who take the risk of early adoption?" - Mariya P., Rockwell Automation Companies that self-finance and take risks in adopting new technology are essentially paving the way for their competitors. The issue of cost of BIM adoption initiatives is contested. Others believe that by not doing so now will make it harder in the future, or that there are tangible cost benefits, such as improved productivity. Our latest report outlines current thinking in how to ensure the built environment sector is future - ready. Coming soon 👀 #BSI #BuiltEnvironment #NetZero #BIM

Utilizing data can transform the way society interacts with the built environment. A digital twin unlocks value by supporting improved decision making. It turns data into insights that enable improved decisions and provide better outcomes. What distinguishes a digital twin from any other digital model is its dynamic connection to the physical twin leading to better interventions. Interconnected digital twins take this idea to the next level by incorporating systems thinking into data-driven decision making. Discover how connected digital twins in the built environment can deliver better outcomes for organizations, the economy and society. PAS 2080 is the world’s first standard for the decarbonization of buildings and infrastructure. The scope of the standard has expanded, detailing steps to reduce the whole- life carbon footprint of both buildings and infrastructure. The new standard covers everything from the materials to design, construction, and the use of a structure, including demolition and disposal. “By implementing the advice set out in PAS 2080, we can inspire behavioural change and accelerate the pace of change as we take a systems-based approach to design, construction and operation of the low-carbon solutions of tomorrow.” - Keith Howells, President of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). PAS 2080 has been sponsored by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the Green Construction Board (GCB), enabling the standard to be offered free of charge. Standards and guidance support digital transformation in the built environment. Considering digital twins through a transformation 'framework' allows organisations to understand and assess the digital maturity of each part of their organization's operating model, while also examining interdependencies between the parts and the whole organization as a functioning ‘system’. Standards, with their agreed principles and benchmarks, offer a structure within which an organization can address issues at each stage of an its digital evolution.
