We are the UK's national standards body (NSB). We represent UK economic and social interests across all European and international standards organizations and in the development of business information solutions for British organizations of all sizes and sectors. BSI is appointed by the UK Government and represents UK interests at the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the European Standards Organizations (CEN, CENELEC and ETSI). Formed in 1901, BSI was the world’s first National Standards Body. Our role is to help improve the quality and safety of products, services and systems by enabling the creation of standards and encouraging their use. Standards provide the knowledge that organizations need to implement best practice and succeed. They can offer a set of powerful tools to make your organization more innovative and productive.

  • In today's fast-paced world, AI is set to revolutionize food safety protocols and practices. During a recent discussion led by BSI in collaboration with Campden BRI at their Member Interest Group on Quality & Food Safety, we asked industry leaders for their views on the transformative potential of AI in food safety. The event featured insights from technical managers, quality and compliance experts, and food safety auditors. One key takeaway? AI is not just a futuristic concept — it's an emerging reality. More than half of attendees are already considering AI adoption, with a substantial majority believing that AI advancements will significantly enhance food safety standards. However, the journey to seamless AI integration is not without its challenges. Participants highlighted issues ranging from data inconsistencies to ethical considerations.
