A Christmas Feast… Join us for a feast for the senses as the magic and wonder of an enchanting new festive story, created in partnership with Joseph Coelho OBE, inspires the sights, smells, and sounds of this year’s Christmas experience; 9 November - 5 January. ‘Henry and the Lion’s Christmas Feast’ takes inspiration from Chatsworth and the life and work of Henry Cavendish, the eighteenth-century scientist and grandson of the second Duke of Devonshire. The house will soon be transformed into a magical adventure with scenery and decorations incorporating the book’s illustrations, created by award-winning illustrator Vivien Mildenberger. The fun doesn’t stop there…explore the garden’s illuminated light trail and discover garden landmarks from a different perspective, and pause to take in a new projection that brings the book characters to spectacular life on the exterior of the house. Our Country Fair takes place from tomorrow, Friday 30 August to Sunday 1 September. We're excited to be expecting the most hot air balloons we've ever had, with 70 ready to take off from 6am each day, as well as Friday and Saturday evenings (weather permitting). We have three days of thrilling grand ring entertainment lined up, traditional country pursuits to try and cookery demonstrations from Ainsley Harriott, James Martin and Nadiya Hussain. We are excited to announce that Chatsworth is being used as a filming location by a major online streaming platform. The house will be closed 22 - 26 July; however, the garden, farmyard and playground and Stables restaurants and shop will be open as usual. The income from projects like this supports Chatsworth House Trust, and our ever-expanding programme of education, outreach and essential conservation, including the restoration of the Cascade. The Chatsworth House Trust charity is fortunate to have 213 committed volunteers supporting our learning, garden, landscape and visitor welcome teams. Recently, six new volunteers have joined our landscape team, allowing us to do more essential maintenance across the park and woodland. In Stand Wood, our volunteers have reduced invasive species around the Ring Pond to help more favourable native plants thrive, and have repaired and cleared the pathway leading to the Hunting Tower. Chatsworth House Trust has launched a major campaign to restore the Cascade, a much-loved feature of the garden dating back to 1696. Centuries of use have weakened the Grade I listed structure; to prevent further deterioration, the water has been turned off and will not flow again until restoration work has been completed. Imaginary Conversations: An Erdem Collection Inspired by Duchess Deborah, opens tomorrow. Set in the regency guest bedrooms, the exhibition celebrates the legacy of Duchess Deborah (1920-2014), and the many ways her style and spirit inspired fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu. A collaboration between Erdem and our talented Textiles team, the exhibition brings Erdem’s creative process to life – from the recreation of his cutting room with original toiles and sketches, to the reunion of key looks from the SS 24 collection with the historic interiors, archival fabrics, photographs, jewellery and accessories that inspired them. #ErdemChatsworth #Chatsworth #Erdem #Farfetch

This week has seen the installation of acoustic monitors across Chatsworth and Bolton Abbey estates for the spring season. These monitors measure the sounds of birds, bats and mammals over a 3-4 week period, and will have similar sampling periods in every season this year. Once collected, the sounds are run through software which identifies which species made the sound, their abundance, and their behaviour at the time of the recording, as well as their conservation status. By placing monitors in different habitats, we are able to get a really good understanding of the species using the estates and what for (e.g. resident / breeding / passing through whilst migrating). It also allows us to identify what is ‘missing’ based on what species should ‘typically’ be there. This allows us to build management plans to improve over time, hopefully encouraging species back to our estate habitats in the future. #chatsworth #boltonabbey #nature #wildlife #conservation #wildlifeconservation
