🗨 Sara Matthieu, MEP for the The Greens/EFA in the European Parliament spoke at the launch of the new report 'No Time to Waste: Driving the EU’s Resilience and Competitiveness through a Circular Economy' about the significance of the circular economy and its advantages for consumers: ‘from the consumer perspective it makes a lot of sense because it often means better designed products at a lower cost for our European citizens.’ ♻️ She emphasised the need for the circular economy to be central to European policies as it enhances strategic autonomy and independence. ➡️ Read the report: https://bit.ly/3ZhCjbF ⌛ #NoTimetoWaste⌛ We Mean Business Coalition Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) EU Environment and Climate Ball Corporation Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) Zero Waste Europe

🌍 Fast-tracking the EU's Circular Economy 🚀 With the upcoming Circular Economy Act, the EU is set to boost demand for secondary materials and create a Single Market for waste. But what will it take to accelerate this shift? At Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), we’ve identified four key drivers to make it happen: 🔹 Policy: Cohesive frameworks and clear targets. 🔹 Funding: Public and private investments. 🔹 Market Demand: Innovation and circular product growth. 🔹 Societal Engagement: Reskilling and sustainable consumer choices. On what each of these means, read the below article 👇

🎥 Watch some of the key takeaways from the launch event at European Parliament of the Material & Products Taskforce report “No Time to Waste: Driving the EU’s Resilience and Competitiveness Through a Circular Economy” 👇 🔄 Sara Matthieu “Circular economy is hugely important for policy, especially here in Europe, because we don't have a lot of own resources. So that really makes it crucial for our independence.” 🔄 William Neale “On its own, legislation doesn't work well enough. We need to accompany that with market-based instruments, getting the prices right to make sure that it pays to do things the right way.” 🔄 Martin Casey at Cemex “One of the most important recommendations in the report is about how we conceive of waste, and that we should conceive it as a resource.” 🔄 Martin Porter “The European Union can seize this moment to make sure that the circular economy becomes part of its overall economic strategy.” 🔄 Claudia Bierth, MBA Ball Corporation “The Circular Economy Act is critical to helping create market demand for recycled materials and to creating a single market for waste, especially for critical raw materials.” ⏰ It’s time for action! Governments and businesses must urgently work together to shift from the outdated linear ‘take-make-dispose’ model to a thriving circular economy. ➡️ Check out our policy recommendations for the new EU institutions: https://bit.ly/3ZhCjbF #NoTimetoWaste #CircularEconomy #Circularity #Competitiveness #Resilience #PolicyRecommendations #GreenDeal

✍️ CLG Europe signed a letter to Commissioner-designates calling for an ambitious public investment strategy and a greener budget. 📈 🌍 Public and private investments in sustainable solutions allow European businesses to innovate and boost competitiveness. Without a robust and comprehensive EU investment plan, the EU jeopardizes any leadership position in the green economy. Transport & Environment (T&E) Ursula Woodburn
A group of 47 businesses, investors and civil society organisations, including Uber, Danone, PepsiCo and T&E, are calling for a major public investment strategy to finance the EU’s green transition. The good news is that Ursula von der Leyen has already said the EU needs an 'Investment Commission' — now it’s time to deliver. At T&E, we’re pushing for a €1 trillion investment plan focused on a green industrial fund for a just and social transition. And we’re not alone. NGOs and trade unions are likewise demanding a NextGenerationEU 2.0, driven by an EU investment strategy that channels funds to growing investment gaps. To finance crucial investments, ETS revenue is a promising source. Ahead of yesterday’s ECOFIN meeting, 16 civil society organisations, cleantech innovators, investors, industry associations, and researchers urged finance ministers and Wopke Hoekstra to use ETS revenues for climate action, cleantech deployment and industrial decarbonisation. Upcoming Commissioner hearings are a critical opportunity to further advocate for increased EU investments in sustainability for the next mandate. The European Commission should deliver ambitious proposals in its first 100 days on: 1️⃣ The announced EU Competitiveness Fund 2️⃣ The Future EU budget 3️⃣ A NGEU 2.0 Read the letter from businesses, investors and civil society calling for an EU investment plan that delivers our climate objectives and a resilient future for Europe ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e-ZJVd5S #SustainableFinance #ClimateInvestment
