In his latest column, Jason Millar brings it back to basics for retailers. As the Christmas season approaches, he points out that an audience first needs to be introduced into the wine world before they can be upsold to. About a younger audience, Millar writes: "This group especially, not sold on wine just yet, is in need of engagement, not premiumisation which, by definition, requires a solid base." https://ow.ly/89EB50TVbTK

The Society of Independent Brewers and Associates has launched a campaign to help consumers identify ‘true’ independent breweries. This is in comparison to global owned brands that some members of the public misbelieve to be indie's. The campaign includes an ‘Indie Beer’ mark and a beer checker tool which allows consumers to check who owns the brewery they’re drinking from. https://ow.ly/naF650TRzJw

As the ubiquity of hazy pale ale gives rise to interest in stouts and porters, Emma Inch takes a walk on the dark side. Inch writes: "New England IPAs are not the only show in town and, if we’re open to learning lessons from the on-trade, the fact that stout grew its volumes by 18% there last year (CGA) should give us plenty of food for thought." https://ow.ly/RzhA50TNkWl
