Exciting news for Frontier Space! Frontier Space in partnership with ATMOS Space Cargo will launch a fully automated laboratory aboard Europe's first commercial returnable spacecraft, Phoenix, via SpaceX. 🚀 One of their payloads includes engineered yeast, which has the potential to revolutionize sustainable food production for deep-space missions. Frontier Space are also testing their next-generation microfluidics systems, which could transform biopharma research & development, paving the way for better drug development, cancer research, and protein crystallization, all benefiting life on Earth. 🌍 👏 Frontier Space are a current #ESABICUK incubatee at Space Park Leicester.

🌊 Tackling Algal Blooms with AI & Remote Sensing 🚀 Just in case you weren’t tuned in to BBC Northern Ireland yesterday afternoon, our CEO James Doherty joined Nicola Weir to discuss BLOOMCAST-NI, Plastic-i’s project using remote sensing and AI to detect and forecast harmful blue-green algal blooms in Lough Neagh. Why does this matter? Algal blooms pose a serious threat to drinking water supplies, fisheries, biodiversity, and tourism—impacting both the environment and local communities. Predicting when and where they will form is crucial to mitigating their effects. To push our capabilities further, our partners at Marble flew state-of-the-art UAVs over Lough Neagh last week, collecting high-resolution test data. This is a game-changer—UAV imagery can capture details even in cloudy conditions, providing critical insights that complement satellite data. We’re excited about diving into the data! 🔬📊 This project, funded by the UK Space Agency and supported by Department of Agriculture and Rural development, Northern Ireland Government and NI SPACE, is focused on tackling the growing challenges posed by harmful algal blooms. By combining space-based and aerial monitoring with AI, we aim to deliver solutions that help protect ecosystems, businesses, and communities.
