The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework —or #IPEF — stands at a critical juncture, with its future hinging on the outcome of next week's US presidential election, writes Julien Chaisse in his latest column. "The incoming president’s trade policies have the power to either advance IPEF, or potentially dismantle it." #Lehigh Valley in #Pennsylvania is a swing region in a swing state. It has also selected the winner in all in all but three presidential races since 1912. 🏭 But outside election season, the region is better known as home to one of the country's most impressive industrial transformations. 🏭 The birthplace of the defunct Bethlehem Steel is now a modern #manufacturing hub — far from the Rust Belt references it still attracts. 🏭 Irrespective of who wins next week's election, Don Cunningham, CEO of Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp. lays out in this #oped what the next White House must do to spur similar turnarounds across the country. https://lnkd.in/gvFfv3mk #FDI #foreigndirectinvestment #swingstate #USelection #LehighValley #reindustrialisation #deindustrialisation #BethlehemSteel #opinion #WhiteHouse #presidentialrace

In #Madagascar, barely a third of the population has access to the electricity grid. 🇲🇬 The government is pushing to unlock the island’s #renewable #energy potential to lift access to 70% of the population by 2030. 🇲🇬 One of the most significant projects on the drawing board is the proposed #Volobe #hydroelectric power plant near #Toamasina. Off-grid projects are also being explored for the island's extensive rural areas and mining sites. " The chances of a successful coup are highest in illiterate, low-income countries, while a civil war has hardly ever happened in rich countries. It’s one reason why few investors build factories in the Sahel region of Africa, and the vast majority of FDI flows from rich countries into other rich countries." Another thought-provoking opinion column by FIM Partners's Charlie Robertson. Your thoughts❓ https://lnkd.in/eScfx9vH

Free zones are often overpromised as a solution to all business problems — from #sustainability and #digitisation to #tax breaks and regulatory easing. It takes a true insider to rebut this claim, and Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ) CEO Ramy Jallad has done exactly that in this op-ed. Characterising free zones as a quick fix for business success undermines their true value. "Businesses should explore and seize every opportunity for long-term growth within these communities. It is this, not quick fixes, that embodies the real power of free zones," he writes https://lnkd.in/gxt-_iMj #FDI #foreigndirectinvestment #freezones #SEZ #freetradezone #specialeconomiczone #Rakez #UAE #oped #opinion #RasAlKhaimah

Does the UK need more cities like Milton Keynes? The government thinks so. 🏗️ It is the biggest of the 'new towns’ built in #Britain after WW2. 🐄 Once mocked for its famous concrete cows, the city is now a regional hub for manufacturing and logistics. 🌳 Its green spaces and infrastructure serve as a model for future housing developments. 🏘 The UK government is pushing for more new towns to address the #UK’s severe housing shortage. See Ben Payton's great story here 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/gQ2iVeJe #MiltonKeynes #HousingCrisis #UrbanDevelopment

As renewables and energy storage scale rapidly, #CCUS — or carbon capture, utilisation, and storage — is critical for achieving net-zero targets. 🟢 In 2023, the EU and US governments made a combined $20bn available for CCUS development. 🟢 But major projects in both regions are still hindered by high costs and scalability issues. Is CCUS worth the cost, or should we focus more on proven technologies like solar and wind? Siôn Geschwindt tackles this question here 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/ehqWwZdW #CarbonCapture #CCUS #ClimateChange #NetZero #Sustainability #GreenEnergy
Carbon capture has a long way to live up to expectation
