This October brings a major milestone in our history here at Gallagher. Fifty years ago, in October 1974, we opened our first office in London – co-founding Lloyd’s broker Gallagher, Hinton and Vereker to better access the London market’s specialism in excess coverage for our clients. A key development that has since underpinned our story of international expansion and specialty insurance strength. We are thrilled to be launching a new tax risk practice for Europe and welcoming Joyce Koch as Senior Tax Broker. Joyce brings extensive experience in tax risk broking and tax consulting. During her 20-year career, she has held roles at Deloitte and Aon and has experience advising clients on both international and national tax domains and mitigating tax-related risks when undertaking activities including restructuring, reorganisation, setting up and maintenance of financing and holding structures, M&A and joint ventures.

Great interview in Insurance Post this week with our UK CEO Michael Rea covering everything from record-breaking revenue and recruitment of talent to rates, deal rationale and rugby – as Gallagher becomes the first broking firm to break through the £1bn revenue barrier in sister title Insurance Age’s annual Top 100 UK Insurance Brokers. While scale is valued at Gallagher, Michael tells Jonathan Swift why it will never be as important as consistent and sustainable growth: “Scale should not be just for vanity. It is only important if you do something with it: bring the best possible solutions to clients and make sure you get the best insurer deals in the market. We are really focused on growing the business year-on-year because that means a few things: it makes us investable, whether that is in people or tech platforms.
