Hexagon Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial's landmark digital twin technology is being used to save the largest saltwater lagoon in Europe. The innovative technology, that creates a 3D digital replica of a geographic area, is being used to map and monitor water flow and incoming disrupters from the area surrounding The Menor Sea (the lagoon). The authorities suspected a number of factors were playing a role in the demise of the community and tourist hotspot, from pesticide runoff to sewage but they needed to be certain. The creation of the digital twin allowed them to run simulations, furthering their understanding of how different urban issues were degrading the lagoons ecosystem and visualise how infrastructure modifications could protect the natural beauty spot. Isabel Quiles a GIS and digital twin specialist at TRAGSATEC said “The digital twin is… a platform that can simulate the future and facilitate powerful decision-making.” When the lagoons eco system collapsed the once crystal-clear water turned sludgy green, choked by oxygen blocking algae, now the digital twin is in place the delicate eco system has begun to stabilise and the community is slowly returning to the water. #innovation #environment #technology https://bit.ly/4eek5gn

Formula 1’s leading team Oracle Red Bull is utilising Hexagon Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial's innovative technology to stay lengths ahead of the competition. Between races the $15.8 million dollar race cars are disassembled, redesigned and completely rebuilt. This is where Hexagons Software excels, offering the hyper precision and accuracy that’s essential to Red Bull’s winning streak. Hexagons metrology equipment and scanners are used to measure every component of the car providing measurements in exquisite detail – ensuring it’s perfectly re- assembled. By using Hexagons systems Red Bull was able to slash the number of on – track faults in half. In 2023 Red Bull kept their foot on the gas winning 95.45% of races. They are full speed ahead in 2024 and have won 5 of their 7 races so far. “Hexagon has played a key role in helping us achieve all the victories from the past 15 years…we’re looking forward to many more years of partnership together, and hopefully, many more victories to come.” - Jonathan Crankshaw, Supply Chain Director of Red Bull Powertrains #F1 #Formula1 #innovation #technology https://bit.ly/3X8x25t

Hexagon Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial's high-quality imagery was the key for success in California’s recent sustainability efforts. The Rancho California Water District serves a population of over 150,000 residents and undertook a project to identify non-functional turf areas through its service area and to pinpoint water needs associated with various land cover types. The original data used was too low resolution for the classification models to differentiate between important variations like trees and grass. Fortunately, the team were able to use Hexagons higher resolutions data to drastically improve the accuracy. “With the higher-resolution HxGN Content Program aerial imagery and 15-centimeter DSMs, the accuracy for both turf and tree classes exceeded 96 percent,” said Dr. Tarlan Razzaghi, Remote Sensing Manager. https://bit.ly/49Rp0jK #water #sustainability #remotesensing #imagery

Satellite Partner Planet Labs recently participated in the SATELLITE 2024 Panel, offering insights into their Earth Observation (EO) applications and technology supporting sustainability. The panel showcased specific examples of EO in action and explored the expanding EO data market. Mariana Curdoglo, senior product manager of PlanetScope at Planet Labs, highlighted how one of their partners, Organic Valley, an organic farming company, utilises their data to enhance sustainable practices such as rotational grazing. “They’re saving a lot in cost and people and time in going to check the field because they just use the imagery to determine if the field [is] ready to be eaten by the cattle,” she said. Despite notable benefits, there has been resistance among potential customers towards adopting the technology, sparking discussions on consumer understanding and marketing strategies. #Earthobservation #Susatainability #Satellite #Remotesensing #Imagery https://bit.ly/3U80ias

Firefly Aerospace has recently partnered with the Pentagon's commercial technology arm (DIU) to explore the potential of their Elytra orbital vehicle for missions beyond geosynchronous Earth orbit. This collaboration supports DIU's Sinequone project, which strives to provide cost-effective and responsive access to cislunar space through launch and orbital transfer services. According to Nathan Gapp, DIU program manager, this “will enable the government to evaluate the technical feasibility and operational effectiveness of the company’s responsive launch and delivery capabilities,”. Following the study the aim is for Firefly to deliver three to six orbital vehicles for one or more launches to orbits in cislunar space. #SpaceExploration #InnovationInSpace #Aerospace https://bit.ly/3TUIa3G

After 30 years in orbit, the ground-breaking European satellite ERS-2 is set to make its descent to Earth today. The satellite is anticipated to experience a "natural" re-entry and is expected to break up into pieces with the majority burning up. Launched in 1995, ERS-2 was hailed by the ESA as the most sophisticated Earth-observation spacecraft developed and launched by Europe, playing a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of the climate crisis. #ers #ers2 #satellite #EO #space https://bbc.in/3uxw4DT
