Following a growing demand for marine and protective coatings in China we are pleased to announce that a newly updated, automated production line is up and running at our Suzhou site. Part of a €14 million investment designed to accelerate growth and double the capacity of our plant, there will be a particular focus on high-performance antifoulings, wind power solutions and fire protection – which are being met by our International brand’s Intersleek, RELEST and Chartek products. Take a look at a recap of the opening of our €1.6m Rain Erosion Testing facility at our manufacturing site in Felling, UK. The first purpose built wind turbine blade coating testing facility simulates real-life weather conditions to test out the durability of coatings against rain erosion. We were thrilled to welcome the Deputy Mayor of Gateshead Council, Freda Geddes and other invited guests who listened to a series of presentations from our team of experts before being given a guided tour of the facility.

AkzoNobel continues to set the standard in the wind energy sector with the opening of a Rain Erosion Testing facility at its manufacturing site in Felling, UK. The first purpose built wind turbine blade coating testing facility simulates real-life weather conditions to test out the durability of coatings against rain erosion. At full speed, it runs at half the speed of sound with a rain field of 1,200 droplets. Fitted with a 1,000 liter water recycling tank and sound insulation, the facility is fully aligned with AkzoNobel’s sustainability goals. It is envisaged that the new facility will accelerate product development by potentially tripling our testing capacity and reducing both time and costs associated with every test. Owning this world-class equipment will transform AkzoNobel’s contributions to innovation in the wind energy sector.

We were chosen to provide protective coatings solutions for Hornsea Wind Farm – the world’s largest offshore wind development (at the time of construction).
