🏳️🌈 Our float made of recycled materials was a standout at this year’s #LondonPRIDE2024 parade! We were proud to join forces with NLA, Multiplex and Focus Logistics for this year's London Festival of Architecture and Architecture LGBT+ PRIDE float. The imaginative Andre Sampaio Kong designed our float, ‘Homes in Every Hue,’ which was powered by people and crafted mostly from surplus materials provided by Focus Logistics. This float symbolized the vital need for inclusive housing in our communities and showcased an innovative approach to repurposing materials. It honored the rich diversity within the built environment, emphasizing the significant contributions of LGBT+ architects throughout history. At Brookfield Properties, we celebrate and support our diverse community and are incredibly proud of our employees who walked in the parade. 'Protected Views' is a careful curation ensuring the preservation of London's iconic landmarks. The 'St Paul’s Heights' policy, etched in the City's narrative since 1937, charts a grid of maximum building heights, safeguarding the visual poetry of St Paul's Cathedral, London from strategic vantage points. The blueprint, outlined in the 'Tall Buildings in the City of London (2020)' study, meticulously evaluates the impact on the skyline, surroundings, and heritage assets. Every proposal for a tall building undergoes scrutiny, ensuring harmony with the character and amenity of its surroundings. Reflecting on the beginning of 2022, a glimpse back at One Leadenhall highlights the strides we've taken. The construction of One Leadenhall is grounded in the top-down approach, strategically erecting sections of the ground floor and basement in advance by employing elevated slabs to optimise space utilisation. Collaborating with Robert Bird Group and Multiplex, we devised a method involving elevated slabs supported by temporary columns within permanent foundations. Observing the central excavation reveals the B1 slab, which serves to prop up and minimise any impact on the movement of the Grade 2* listed Leadenhall Market. This innovative approach provided a significant saving to the construction program, laying a robust foundation to continue with the development of One Leadenhall.
