This week Queen's University Belfast had the privilege of hosting visitors from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). The Director of JSPS London, Professor Naoto Kobayashi, Deputy Director Dr. Dr Yumiko Myoken and International Programme Associate Yui Miyaura were in Belfast on Wednesday 5th February. The Global Research Development Team at Queen's which helps promote research partnerships across disciplines and borders to address projects of world significance – hosted the visitors and facilitated a funding information session. The session was attended by a wide range of Queen’s staff and students, and the JSPS were able to detail their many funding schemes. It also provided the attendees an invaluable opportunity to quiz JSPS on the particulars of their funding opportunities. The packed schedule also included a meeting with QUBIS COO Louise Reed (née Magee), who gave the visitors an informative run through of QUBIS Ltd and commercialisation activities at Queen’s and allowed ideas to be shared on how best to encourage entrepreneurship across the research base. They also they visited the Thomas J. Moran Graduate School meeting with Prof Colin McCoy, Dean of the Graduate School. Dr Nikki Kernaghan, Head of Global Research, noted “We were delighted to host the JSPS at Queen’s and provide a forum for our academics and students to learn about opportunities for engagement with Japan. We hope the fruitful discussions will result in strengthening links with organisations and institutions in Japan in the near future”

Together with the expertise of Shirley-Ann Hazlett of the Queen's Business School and Dr Paula Douglas and Alan Clarke of AMIC (we-are-amic.com), Hannah is creating a circular value-chain management system for 'end-of-life' garments.
