The in-person workshop will feature talks, hands-on sessions and strategic advice for proposal writing. There will be #JWST experts in the room, and some unstructured time for you to ask for help on your own proposals. As well as worked examples for using the Astronomer’s Proposal Tool (APT) and exposure time calculator (ETC). Please note that the workshop is free of charge and open to all members of the community. Meet Haneef, Israel and Kehinde, three interns working at STFC this summer as part of the 10,000 Black Interns programme. This year, we’re hosting ten interns through the programme, based at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Daresbury Laboratory and the UK Astronomy Technology Centre. Haneef Shittu is an electrical and electronic engineering student interning at the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source. “The highlight of working here so far is simply the atmosphere. With flexible hours, no strict dress code and a facility that feels like a campus, it is very easy to settle in. “Also being able to see all the major equipment up close and understanding how they work is a surreal experience.” Israel is working at RAL Space as a Quantum Sensors Intern, where he’s using software to spot patterns in experiments at the atomic level. “I am hoping to understand the public sector more and also see if a more academic route is a possible career path, especially in Science and Technology.” Kehinde’s placement is at STFC ASTeC at Daresbury Laboratory, where he’s working on an inventory management system for the CLARA particle accelerator. “The highlight of my internship has been the incredible support from my team and line manager. We're happy to share the first images from one SKA-Low telescope station! The video below shows a 24-hour observation, and demonstrates the high sensitivity of a single station - imagine what we'll see when all 512 SKA-Low stations are looking at the sky in the future! In the video we can see the Milky Way rising and passing overhead during the night time hours. Some other bright radio sources are marked, including the galaxies Centaurus A and M87, and the Sun is also visible during the day. This data was obtained at Inyarrimanha Ilgari Bundara, the CSIRO Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory. UK ATC apprentice wins Apprentice of the Year at Edinburgh College Last month students across the city were awarded for their hard work at a prize giving ceremony at Edinburgh College.  It was a good night for UK ATC Engineering Support Group #Apprentice Luca Millan who was among the recipients, picking up Apprentice of the Year SVQ2 Performing Engineering Operations – Manufacturing and Maintenance (sponsored by EDETA). Luca Millan, Engineering Support Group Apprentice at UK ATC, said: “I would like to say thank you to Edinburgh College and EDETA for this award. The support and encouragement I have received in the workplace and in college is what allowed me to perform at my best."
