The Science and Technology Facilities Council and the University of Edinburgh have long and proven histories of not only developing revolutionary science and technology but also commercialising it and creating viable businesses. This extensive knowledge and expertise is now made available to ambitious businesses in Scotland thanks to the development of a purpose built facility at the prestigious Royal Observatory Edinburgh. The Higgs Centre for Innovation brings together world-class research in astronomy and particle physics and the instrumentation expertise that underpins it, with business incubation facilities and laboratories suitable for commercial use. Scientists, engineers and students interact and collaborate to improve our understanding of the Universe and will engage with companies both big and small to drive technological advancement forward.

Great to see Oren S. from Edinburgh based start-up Aurora Avionics speaking to BBC News. The sector is so well connected with academia, industry and Government all working together. Great day yesterday exploring startup and high growth Leadership with the very talented people who's businesses are supported by the Higgs Centre for Innovation in Edinburgh. Unfortunately our planned activity was scuppered by the Scottish Summer ☔ but we did manage a #walking discussion on Braids Hill and, as it's the Centre for Innovation, adapted to suit. Big shout to Dave Stewart who originated the tent idea (and does it way better) and to Ruairidh Henderson for coordinating the session. It was fantastic to welcome members of The Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group on Space earlier this week to talk about how the Higgs Centre for Innovation and the UK Astronomy Technology Centre are supporting the regional space ecosystem. The MSPs were given a tour round the Royal Observatory Edinburgh site to see the amazing science and engineering going on, as well as visit the ESA Business Incubation Centre United Kingdom based at the Higgs. Thank you to ADS Group Ltd for helping coordinate the visit!
