Members of the Wates Development team had a terrific day on Friday 6th September at the Goodwood Revival, along with a number of our valued partners and associates. While the weather wasn’t terribly kind, it takes more than a spot of rain to dampen our spirits at Wates Developments, especially when fancy dress is involved! Colleagues donned their 1940s outfits and thoroughly enjoyed the event, which gave us ample opportunities to network, and debate the precise hierarchy of 1940s military ranks, and establish which fancy dress outranked everyone else! Thanks to all those who attended; we hope you had as much fun as we did! David Brocklebank, Natalie Flint, Stephen Sedgley MRICS, Simon Kibblewhite, Tim Searl, Sam Kirkaldy, Susanna Bowles, Charlotte Gorst, Russell W Mogridge MRICS, Charlotte Wilson and Gemma Leonard.

Today marks World Suicide Prevention Day. To help raise awareness, the Wates Developments team has been proudly taking part in our 5km Everyday Challenge throughout the month, supporting PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide – the UK charity dedicated to preventing young suicide. Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under 35 in the UK, with many suffering in silence. PAPYRUS aims to create a society where people feel able to talk openly about suicide and have access to the support they need. Our colleagues have been running or walking 5K EVERY DAY, and ten days into the month, we are well on the way to our target of 150K with 45K clocked up already! We’d love your support for this vital cause. If you’d like to donate, please visit our JustGiving page: https://lnkd.in/egJV-5mP Together, we can raise awareness and help make a difference in the fight against young suicide. Pictured are some of the team from yesterday’s walk – Elliott Firth, Rio Daniel, Rory Kemp MRICS, George Andrews MRICS, Jacob Mangham, Paul Thomas, Jordan van Laun MRICS, Lorea Johnston and Alice Cameron – sporting their Papyrus T-shirts as they clocked up their 5K during a lunchtime walk. #charity #fundraising #mentalhealth #PAPYRUS #suicideprevention

After successfully securing outline planning permission at appeal in March 2023, our Developments team completed the sale of a site in Bramley in January 2024, which will deliver up to 140 new homes, including 40% affordable housing. The site will also include vital community assets such as a community hub, skate park, allotments, and orchards, all nestled within 40 acres of open space. Landowner, Carol Walton, commented: "Wates have worked tirelessly to push the project forwards to a successful conclusion against all the odds. Their professionalism and experience has been second to none and we have enjoyed working with the team at Wates.” Find out more here about how our strong commitment to sustainable new housing developments, collaboration and capability made this possible: https://lnkd.in/ewAbTVq3 #CommunityAssets #SustainableDevelopment #WatesDevelopments #AffordableHousing

There is a real competitive streak within the team at Wates Developments. From charity events and fundraisers to sporting challenges and industry events, we never shy away from a chance to put ourselves to the test. So, to mark the end of the summer, team members donned their sporting attire for a friendly - yet competitive - rounders match today. It was a closely fought match with team A being the victors led by Rio Daniel and splendid umpiring from David Bowen, followed by pizzas for all! A big shout out to #ZaenaPill for organising and Ashtead Cricket Club for allowing us to use their ground. As the photos show, everyone had a great time! #WatesDevelopments #Land #Landpromotion #OneTeam "

A big thank-you to Oliver Robinson at Batcheller Monkhouse for his outstanding efforts on behalf of the landowner, Ian Jones from DAC Beachcroft leading on the legal process and Shiv Singh MRICS and everyone in the Wates Developments team whose hard work has helped bring the site to a successful exchange. At Wates Developments Group, we believe that sustainability not only helps people and nature; it produces better returns on land development. Over the course of the next five years, we have many exciting plans to embed sustainability in our work. This will include introducing a new placemaking and inclusion standard, as well as developing a new social value action plan for each scheme to ensure local needs are met effectively. We’re exploring how to reduce embodied carbon through the master planning process and setting ourselves some challenging targets to future-proof our longer-term planning strategies for our residential and commercial land schemes. There’s lots more too.
