ABB’s, and SaltX Technology joint webinar is in just two weeks! Don’t miss out – register here for free: https://bit.ly/3WIeQxt The electrification of heating processes is a promising pathway to decarbonisation, where shifting from fuel combustion to low-carbon electricity could substantially reduce emissions. One of the main challenges pertaining to large-scale implementation of electrified heating systems is scaling to maximise both temperature and throughput. Several methods for the electrification of the high-temperature calcination process, which accounts for up to 70% of the CO2 emissions in the cement process, have been investigated, including resistance, induction, and microwave heating. However, scaling to meet the high thermal energy transfer rates required has led to system designs with prohibitively large heat transfer areas and/or gas flow volumes per unit mass. ABB and SaltX will demonstrate how they are collaborating to help cement manufacturers on their decarbonisation journey by discussing Electric Arc Calciner (EAC) technology. Great progress video here from Careys, the main contractor for Aggregate Industries UK' new Cement Manufacturing and Distribution Facility at the Port of Tilbury. Ground works began in early February 2024 and the team recently completed the first slab pour for the storage hall, which consisted of 344m3 concrete poured over a nine hour period. This ambitious project is scheduled for completion in 2025 and at peak Careys will employ 90 operatives on site. Once operational, the Tilbury facility will allow Aggregate Industries to supply customers 24 hours a day with conventional, low carbon and circular cementitious materials from five loading heads.

World Cement is hosting a webinar with ABB and SaltX Technology entitled “Electric Arc Calciner – Decarbonizing the Cement & Lime Industry” on September 4, 2024. In this webinar, Max Tschurtschenthaler at ABB and Corey Blackman at SaltX will share how our combined technologies can drive the future of sustainable cement production. ABB and SaltX are collaborating for electrification of emission-intensive industries to enable the further development of technologies in the Electric Arc Calcination (EAC) process. The technology replaces the use of fossil fuels through renewable electricity in the calcination process and enables cost efficient capture of the carbon emissions at the same time. Read more about collaboration from Press Release: https://ow.ly/OlTI50SZeOi This webinar will cover ABB’s solutions, the key features of the Electric Arc Calciner (EAC) including its use of plasma technology for the calcination of pure limestone and cement raw meal by SaltX, the main benefits of the technology, and the potential impact on the related industries.
