plays like a narrative sequel to the eponymous Sweet Williams record. That rough beast now truffling onwards thru the shellshocked countryside. not many people are making music this raw and unfettered by expectation these days. grab it, dumbass.
Red Will is the surprise debut album from UK DIY supergroup-of-sorts Joy Dimmers. Eight beautiful songs that slowly unravel, creeping up on you at their own pace. Eight glacial masterpieces of minimalist arrangement decorated with moments of maximalist joy.
Oli Heffernan (Ivan The Tolerable, Year Of Birds, All Structures Align, King Champion Sounds etc) is incurable. He gets so very sad if he's not working on at least three different things at any given time.
During the early months of 2020, you may recall, time, for many, was not at a premium. Hence, to occupy his never-idle brain, Heffernan telepathically summoned three of his most trusted associates: Neil Turpin (Objections, Bilge Pump, All Structures Align, Polaris), Tim Ineson (All Structures Align, Nub) and Thomas House (Sweet Williams, Charlottefield, Joeyfat, Sloath) and issued the briefest of briefs: it's going to be slow.
With no further discussion, the four set to work, each allowing whatever germs the others sowed to dictate their contributions. The songs appeared, as if from nowhere, like coalescing clouds of vapour and dust. Not a single thought crossed anybody's mind.
Red Will, channelled, allowed, as opposed to composed, recorded, is released on Wrong Speed on April 5th 2024, the 30th anniversary of the demise of Kurt Cobain.

another banger from a band and label you can rely upon. like math rock but softer than that - moth rock? maybe. there's a jerk and flutter to these songs, forever reaching into the light. gnarlier bass chunkiness than before too, but if you're lucky enough to get Oli Heffernan on the squad, you boost that signal. eldudowski

I'm having flashbacks to basement parties in the early 80s, and making out hardcore with Tammy Mauer. Man, were we baked and making out all the time, covered in denim and leather. mohaski
