RegisterIt’s vital our future dermatologists provide the highest level of specialty care to patients; however, significant disparities in care remain, especially among minority populations. Evidence indicates that work force diversity reduces health care disparities. We believe by increasing the number of practicing dermatologists who are, themselves, under-represented minorities, we can positively impact these disparities.
The American Academy of Dermatology is partnering with the Association of Professors of Dermatology, Skin of Color Society, the Society for Investigative Dermatology, and the Women’s Dermatologic Society to host the Diversity Champion Workshop, which is designed for faculty members in dermatology residency programs who are involved in the evaluation and selection of candidates for their program.
We encourage you to become a Diversity Champion and attend this important workshop to discuss diversity outreach programs, exchange ideas, and share success stories.
Attendees will:
Drive awareness of the important role residency programs have in improving the diversity of the dermatology workforce.
Facilitate the establishment and development of diversity outreach programs.
Learn what other programs are doing to improve underrepresented minorities in medicine (URM) diversity in dermatology.
Increase awareness of holistic review processes for residency applicants.
Help expand cultural competence within all residency programs.
Contribute to improved patient health outcomes in minority communities.
