Great Turntable but there are flaws
Audio Technica are a very good name in the Turntable world - not the luxury Audiophile end but the mid-range and beginner (automatic turntable) end of the market. The LP5x is there top of the line home user turntable (not the DJ type with pitch control etc). This is a really good turntable that has a low Wow and flutter (mine measured 0.06% for 33 1/3 on RPM Speed and Wow App and 0.05% for 45RPM).The Cartridge (VM95EBK) sounds great but you can upgrade the replaceable stylus to a better quality stylus (the VM95ML for example). The turntable mat is a 5mm thick rubber and this is a direct drive turntable.I do have a few niggles with the turntable though. For me the plinth could have been made a bit more solid as it is only made out of a plastic which can transmit sounds, such as when you lower the dust cover, through the amplifier and into the speakers. There's no dedicated holder for the, nice machined aluminium, 45 adaptor.Although these are little niggles they can be the difference between a good turntable and a great turntable. But saying that, the sound is good, the detachable headshell is great and the adjustable feet are a great addition to the package. But if you are after a turntable that has an auto-stop function - this isn't the turntable for you - it is a fully manual turntable.Despite the little niggles I am really happy with the turntable and would recommend it to anyone who wants a good turntable at an excellent price (£299.99 at time of purchase).

Pros:-
Fantastic sound, Good tonearm (no bearing play), Great budget cartridge fitted (sounds really good and tracks well (IGD minimal)), Extremely low noise, Flat platter, accurate platter speed & stability, inaudible Wow & flutter, has onboard preamp which isn't too bad at all (but obviously a lot better through external phono pre-amp, less HF rolloff and greater dynamics)

Cons:-
Plinth resonance/feedback at higher volumes/SPL (>90dB in general), low-mid bloom at moderate volumes probably as a result of the plinth resonance, but doesn't sound objectionable, in fact adds slight fullness to the sound on some lesser recordings, Bit utilitarian looking.
p.s. The aforementioned cons do not apply for normal/safe listening levels ~86dB

To get the best out of the TT, place it as far as you can from you speakers. And maybe look into more damping for the lower plinth.

Reliability:-
Can't really comment as not had it long enough yet, but seems very well made (albeit plasticy) for its price-point.

I ordered the Sony PS-LX310BT from Amazon and I was really disappointed with the sound, it sounded warped and phasing, so I returned that.

I was then torn between the AT-LP120xBTUSB and the AT-LP5X, and finally opted for the AT-LP5X as the reviews were equally good with the only thing missing was bluetooth, and I figured I could live with out that especially as I was connecting to Sonos ERA 300 which meant I could link to other Sonos speakers such as my Roam.

It sounds brilliant, the setup is lovely especially after watching some YouTube videos. I am really pleased with this deck and it looks so much better because it doesn't have the pitch slider which is on the AT-LP120xBTUSB deck.

My top vinyl to test with is Aretha Franklin – Live At Fillmore West which sounds amazing!

I've recently sold my Technics 1210 MK2s to buy something more focused on playback rather than DJing.

I was torn between the Technics 100c or this turntable. Decided to take a chance on the cheaper option.

Must say that other than a slightly annoying.non existent on/off button, and a slight clumsy fitting lid, this turntable along with the included cartridge delivers a great listening experience.

Unlike the technics,it's a much lighter turntable but for this price range it's definitely worth it.

The built in preamp as well as usb option is a great addition to the already great features this turntable possesses.

I'd rate it five stars if it weren't for the two slight set backs mentioned above.

Very good turntable with excellent upgrade potential.
My setup: Onkyo A-9010 amp with KEF Cresta 2 speakers.

Big pluses:
+ sturdy construction, good weight
+ comes with AT-VM95E cartridge which has a balanced, solid sound
+ has MM/MC stylus switch offering very good upgrade potential
+ has built-in phono stage as well as USB output
+ easy and fast to setup (includes drop lever tweaking as well)
+ the motor starts and stops very fast

A couple of things holding it back
- wow and flutter is <0.2% according to the specs which is not competitive (I measured wow at around 0.11% with RPM Speed Android app)
- the platter has a very small rotational wobble (doesn't seem to affect music)
- the tonearm when moved has imprecise tracking and also doesn't rest perfectly in the cradle

Minor personal annoyances
- it always has a standby LED powered up
- the provided rubber mat is thick (which is good) but after a couple of plays emanates a plastic'y smell

Overall I like it and I'm going to use as a base of various upgrades. In my opinion the next step after this is the Technics SL-1500C but it costs almost triple.

I bought this for my son's 18th and he loves it. Sounds great. As you can see he has Cambridge audio bits already but the turntables were a little out of budget so looked into one that has great sound and was affordable but still special for an 18th and this one was a winner.
I was advised to have a look on Richer Sounds website as they were great so when I saw that they had bits on Amazon I was over the moon.

Purchased for my fiance as a christmas gift, I researched extensively on Reddit and most audiophiles recommend this one as as a high end record player for people new to the hobby. The ability to plug it into the computer means you can play the audio through your computer speakers which was really awesome for us. Would definitely recommend!

Totalmente recomendable

5.0 out of 5 stars Das "audiophile" Arbeitstier und Dreher für alle Fälle
Reviewed in Germany on 8 October 2020
Style Name: Manual Direct Drive Hi-Fi TurntableVerified Purchase

Mal so, mal so.
