My husband found out about how many awful chemicals are in the regular, store-bought oil sprays so we decided to give these a try. They are perfect for baking and cooking. The spray is even and mist like in stead of a stream like other spray bottles. They are easy to use! The spray is not as continuous as the store bought ones but I will take it over the added chemicals and propellants! We filled our first one with regular vegetable oil for baking and plan to use olive oil in the other for misting veggies.

The concept is a good one because it doesn't use chemical propellants that I don't want in my food. It also saves money and reduces waste, because buying oil is a bit cheaper than those spray oil bottles which can also damage pans over time.

There are two problems that become evident with use and both are design related. First, in order for the sprayer to work properly, the bottle must only be filled about half way. The metallic outer coating makes it difficult, if not impossible, to tell the amount of oil left in the sprayer and when to refill. Second, the pump is plastic and one of mine broke after six months of average use. I am a one person household and cook on average about twice a day.
I hope that the second sprayer holds up a bit better.

As some other reviewers point out, there's a bit of inconsistency with the spray on these. Occasionally, it will spray a perfect mist, but most of the time it will spray somewhere between a mist and a stream. I think it probably has something to do with the temperature of the oil. That being said, even when it sprays in a stream-like way, it's still totally usable for my needs. I use it mostly to oil up my egg cooker when I make "poached" eggs because otherwise, they'll stick. Before I had this, I would always end up with a pool of oil in each little container that holds an egg. However, so far even on its worst day, this has been able to coat each container completely while using a fraction of the oil I used to use.

I purchased these because of a recommendation from CNN Underscored. I was happy to get two, one to use for olive oil and the other for avocado oil. I liked that I could use my own oils that I trust instead of prepackaged sprays with oils from who knows where. However, only one of the two sprayers worked well (you need to pump them by hand instead of them using propellent; this manual feature also appealed to me). But no matter how much I pumped one of them, it just weakly sputtered out the oil. I actually returned the sprayer directly to the manufacturer to the address they supplied me...and I never heard from them again! Will not buy again.

Not worth the money

I have had (and been using) these for a few months now.
I received it from a relative who very much likes their Misto sprayers.
My OnLY issue with these sprayers is that I wish they sprayed while being held at maybe a 90 degree angle - they must be held much more upright to work effectively. (So I find myself tipping the bowl or pan I am spraying, an easy fix.)

Plastic sprayer reviews seem to agree that the plastic will get to hold a smell after a while of use. Ugh!
The sprays from the store have additives, such as anti-foaming agents, emulsifying agents to prevents ingredients from separating, propellants/chemicals used to drive the fluid out of the can,.. so I feel that the Miso sprayers are a healthier choice.

First, I find that they work best when I do not fill them much. This way, the pressure can build by pumping and I can have it empty more often for cleaning. If I fill it as much as recommended, I find that I really ought to be cleaning it more often.

I have seen comments about the spraying. There was a learning curve for me. I don't even count the pumps, because I found that 10-15 is often not enough (possibly because I fill it less). I pump it until I feel resistance, and the cap no longer goes all of the way down for the pump, or even until I can no longer pump the cap. With the container pressurized, I do not get the spittle, but I get a very nice spray. If the spray starts to die off, I stop & re-pump to pressurize again. So I have found that the spittle and drops come from not enough pressure. Pump it up again.
Also, hold the sprayer more upright than perpendicular.

I have sen comments about instructions to depressurize after each use. This does NoT mean after every spray. It means when you are putting the sprayer away for use at another time. Storing it while pressurized will quickly ruin the sealing ability.

As with other sprayers (and even cans of spray paint), I sometimes (never always) turn the sprayer upside down & spray to clear the nozzle. Then I release the pressure. I have never had trouble with the nozzle clogging. Then again, filling with less oil, I may be cleaning the entire thing more often than other users.

** UPDATE: My above review was written in haste.
This product simply does not last.

One broke when washing after the first few weeks of using. There is an attachment on the bottom of the tube that goes into the oil that broke off when hand washing. There is no way to attach it back on to the tube. The sprayer does not work correctly without this piece.

The second sprayer would spray a mist for perhaps the first four times used. Now it will only produce a stream of oil. Not at all what the product advertises or why I bought it.

These were a gift, recommended from a relative.
At the time, they did not know where the Misto sprayers they had bought and used years before were or why they no longer used them. After my 'issues' and longer discussions, it appears that they also had problems with this product and are sorry to have recommended them.

The Misto is great. It does aerosolize some excess oil when spraying it on to a pan. Some oil floats in the air rather than going straight to where you spray, but it's not bad over all. I really like using it for flavored oils like sesame, and to replace non-stick.

I have a tip for those that have experienced clogging issues or are worried about clogs with their Misto sprayer. Treat it like a can of spray paint. When you are finished using the sprayer take it outside (or do it over a trash can). Pump it up and flip it over and keep it upside down. Spray until no more comes out, just like cleaning out a can of spray paint. Then turn it back upright and unscrew the cap to release the pressure. Re-tighten the cap to keep the oil fresh, and you are done. That should keep it clog free. Happy misting!

I was worried about buying this product based on some other reviews I read, but the units I received were and so far are, in perfect working order. I like the convenience of having aerosol oil, but don't want to spend more money on cans I'm going to end up throwing out. These were a great solution.
When the can starts to run low on pressure you can get little streams as opposed to mists of oil, but a couple extra pumps of air seem to solve the problem so far. The nozzle head could be better, maybe? Not sure on that one, so far I haven't run into any big issues.
Loving it so far, makes using less oil when cooking a breeze, means I can still buy large containers of oil for cheaper and get whatever kind of oil spray I want, and hopefully will keep working for a long, long time to come.
I'd definitely give them a try if you're on the fence!
