"Product-Led Onboarding is a must-read for anyone embarking on the critical activity of improving their user onboarding." - Sean Ellis, Founder of GrowthHackers.com and Author of Hacking Growth

"Product-Led Onboarding provides a detailed, practical, how-to guide to crafting the perfect user onboarding experience." Nir Eyal, bestselling author of Hooked and Indistractable

Just like dating, your company's growth depends on first impressions.

If you've been in the SaaS space for some time, you're probably all too familiar with these problems:

  • Free accounts don’t convert to paid nearly as often as you would like.
  • A large chunk of users never get to experience the full value of the product.
  • Your platform is littered with dead accounts that are taking up valuable space.

Let’s face it. Today’s users are impulsive and easily distracted. They don’t have the time (or patience) to try and figure things out by themselves.

They expect the product to be intuitive. Easy. And fast.

What’s more, they want more than they paid (or didn’t pay) for, and they want it now.

So, if their first date with your product is anything but silky-smooth, you risk losing out to the competition. Add to that a few, unfairly poor reviews and you’ll be more than just stuck.

In this book, you’ll learn the simple 6-step strategy used by giants like Mixpanel, Ubisoft, and Outsystems that will get you more loyal clients in a fraction of the time.

Best of all, it’s a process that will easily become second nature.

Learn how to:

  • Grab your customers’ attention from the get-go.
  • Make it easier for users to get good at using your product so they are more likely to use it.
  • Match value with behaviors and get users addicted to your product.
  • Win loyalty and praise by making clients feel like a VIP.
  • Involve sales and high-touch support in the onboarding process.
  • Rinse and repeat, and watch your business grow while you sleep.

Get this right and your new users will thrive with your product, and become lifelong customers.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"For most SaaS companies, the real growth problem starts when people sign up and don't stick around. This is usually an onboarding problem, and it's often the biggest weakness for most businesses. Product-Led Onboarding is a must-read for anyone embarking on the critical activity of improving their user onboarding."-- SEAN ELLIS, Founder of GrowthHackers.com and Author of Hacking Growth "Before you can get users HOOKED on your product, you have to first ensure they start using it. Product-Led Onboarding provides a detailed, practical, how-to guide to crafting the perfect onboarding experience." -- NIR EYAL, bestselling author of Hooked and Indistractable "There are countless resources out there that teach the fundamentals and best practices of user onboarding. Where Product-Led Onboarding really shines is its attention to the operational aspect of making those changes: how to get buy-in, how to form your team, how to run an onboarding optimization project successfully. It's a tactical primer for those who care about improving their product's onboarding experience and now need to get their organization moving in the right direction."-- CLAIRE SUELLENTROP, SaaS Growth Advisor and former Head of Marketing at Calendly "Your product's growth depends on how successful you are in onboarding new users. This book offers a specific, detailed, and useful approach to improving your product's onboarding. It should be on every product and marketing leader's reading list."-- HITEN SHAH, Co-Founder of FYI, Crazy Egg, and KISSmetrics

Background: we’re a venture backed and YC backed SAAS startup.

Read the book and it was extremely insightful. It’s actionable and basically a solid guide.

This book has been amazing so far! Ramli does a great job of clearly stating why excellent onboarding is necessary (with the ROI numbers to back it up), and actionable steps on how to make the process smoother.

I always thought "My apps are simple, onboarding is for big companies." But now, literally every chapter of this book has given me ideas on how to get people into my app, make sure they use and understand it, and convert them to paying customers.

This book isn't just a simple, basic intro that rehashes one concept over and over. It starts from the first time someone visits your website, and expands on each critical step to them becoming a happy customer that sticks around.

This book only has to help me get one more paying customer to be worth the price, and I'm pretty sure the changes I've made (and will make soon) will do so much more!

The book is very good. It definitely has the content that I was looking for in terms of being a guide to make your product’s onboarding more successful.

I’m rating it a 4 out of 5 stars because I would have liked to see more examples. It has examples I just wanted more.

It also would have been good to see timelines of messaging that happens towards users.

Sometimes you find one of those books, that just keeps you turning page after page after page. This book is one of those rare finds, every page will give you fresh ideas to work on for your product.

After all, why waste all those marketing dollars if your users are flocking away the moment they start using your product.

If you want to stop wasting money and keep your users from churning, it all starts at the moment they open your app, or product for the first time. Learn how you can keep them engaged and turn them into active users, using the EUREKA framework.

You can thank me later ;-)

The author don’t waste time with unnecessary background, but jump straight into the topics with really helpful advice. Although there are some repetition, it is intended to make certain most important tips is emphasized and that the reader are reminded exactly where in the process they are. The framework is very helpful and address onboarding issues in a complete and systematic manner. No matter what your level of PM skills are, you will learn many new skills from this book.

A must-read for any software organization, and for every Product team. Ramli takes the daunting task of user onboarding and turns it into an actionable step-by-step guide that enables Marketing, Product and Engineering teams to work together.

As a marketer, this book made me think about the elegantly designed ways in which effective marketing teams begin that onboarding process before the customer actually uses the product.

Great examples and useful templates. Great for product managers who would like to specialize in product growth. One remark - there can be fewer words between sessions just for transitioning.

I found this book incredibly valuable. Working at a product-led growth company, onboarding is a key component of our growth. Ramli did an incredible job of distilling what can feel like an overwhelming process into simplified and actionable frameworks that we've been able to directly apply to our business. The most important and valuable thing to note about the book is that all of the information provided is ACTIONABLE.

I'm the last person to read a self-help or business book because I find that many tend to focus so much on sharing the story of the author, which usually leans far into ego-stroking territory... not this book. So incredibly helpful. As a marketer, it's given me new appreciation for the product team while understanding how I can best help and contribute to the onboarding experience of the product and company.
