These are a fun kitchen accessory. I've ended up using them more to mold steamed rice rather than eggs, and they work very well- the rice doesn't stick, and they wash easily on the top/utensil rack of the dishwasher. The hinge and latch are sturdy and well made. No complaints at all!

This is the same review I posted for the heart/star mold combo, because the formula is the same...the size of the egg you need however, differs from mold to mold-I learned the hard way. I had XL eggs which worked GREAT for the heart & star...but for these it created a "smooshy" issue!

The "customer pictures" posted are very accurate to the results you'll get...however, learn from the mistakes from others before you jump into it or you'll be disappointed and/or very irritated. These are SUCH a cute, sturdy & simple product.

My first mistake: I tried to do 18 eggs with 4 molds...not happening. They must be HOT when you put them in the mold...then you shock them in ice water for at least 10 minutes to set up...So doing 4 at a time left me with a problem.

Second: EVERYONE and their brother has a technique. You should read, watch and try all of them, and figure out which one works best for YOU. Think about your comfort zone and your kitchen, tools, etc. beforehand. Don't assume you have to do it ONE certain way. Settle in with some blogs and You-Tube videos, there's plenty out there!

I've personally found that BAKING the eggs (350 for 30 min) automatically separates the shell & the inner membrane from the egg while cooking. When you take them out, these eggs peel like nothing I've ever seen. The caveat(you know there has to be one), the baking process leaves brown spots from the oven on some of the eggs.

Well have no fear, the internet is here! The solution: Food Coloring in the water! (Again-so simple) Now you have green and pink and blue and any color you want...cute, attractive to your kids, and it's still a natural & healthy snack.

I've been using this set and the car/heart set for a few months now. A few things to note:

(1) I've dishwashed these against instructions many times, and not had a problem yet. However, they are pretty easy to hand-wash compared to most molds as the detailing isn't very intricate.

(2) The instructions say to soak the mold in water after inserting the egg, but I've always just thrown them in the fridge directly and gotten a nice clean mold. Once or twice I've even put a cold egg in the mold and had it work out ok.

(3) These things are great molds but also great egg containers for transport. I throw one or two in my bag as a mid-afternoon or post-workout protein snack.

(4) If you're going for gorgeous, I've found the best option is large eggs hard-boiled in agitated water (so the yolk sets in the center rather than an edge), and rabbit and car molds are more foolproof than the heart or bear. If you don't really care too much about appearance, medium or extra large eggs will still fit, with some gaps or overhanging white respectively.

(5) I don't know what compelled me to try to make devilled eggs with molded eggs, but it's a dumb idea. The molding process can make the egg white thin and fragile, and the eggs don't keep their shape very long after being released from the mold regardless.

These worked perfectly for me and I'm excited to use them again and again. I love boiled eggs and why not have a little fun with your food and make it super cute!? I did need to trim a tiny bit off when using XL eggs but honestly with American grocery store eggs size M or L they were perfect. If size concerns are causing you to hesitate due to others' reviews, do not fear. It's very easy to trim these eggs and the molds are pretty generously sized. The molds' clip is a lot nicer & sturdier than I would have expected, too. Great fun!

ok - the title is technically a lie b/c you really don't want your 4 yo boiling water and making boiled eggs, but once they're peeled, give to the 4 yo and they can put into the mold and close it on their own.

eggs - XL - small eggs won't fill the mold

boil eggs (i add a splash of vinegar and a dash of salt once the water boils - not that it matters) i leave the pot as is, i don't prop the eggs, i don't shake the pan around
drain pot - fill with cold water
peel eggs in water (boiled eggs are kinda hot - who knew)
give to child
child puts into mold
let it sit in mold for a few minutes (clean up kitchen)

my molds came out fine w/o having to soak it in cold water for 10 minutes

planning on making these for my kiddos next snack day

FYI - my kid won't eat hard boiled eggs and after we made this, he grabbed 4 and ran away to eat them

The bear mold is a little bigger so I'll to fiddle around with it to make the bear w/ears (for now, i'm eating a hardboiled egg-bear w/o ears - FWP). The bunny - super cute, super easy, the fish/car - also fantastic.

so my sister and i are in our 20's, but we're still kids at heart. so when i got her this set she was super excited b/c she loves bunnies. well, she really enjoyed the final product (i'm going to post a pic), and i must say, looking at the picture she sent me made me want to buy a set for myself! the eggs were REALLY cute!! she said that she followed the directions from the other commenters on this site and she messed up on the first egg, but then everything went perfectly. she said that the eggs were easy to mold and that they held up nicely (that is, until she ate them haha). i told her to bring down the molds next time she comes to visit me so that i can try them out on my hardboiled eggs as well (and i may update my post then).

i would recommend getting this set if you want to make your eggs cute :] and if you make lunch for someone, this will definitely put a smile on their face :]!!!
