Untouchable frame rates and frame times, while running cool and quiet
There are actually two reasons why this CPU is so good for gaming. Average frames per second is just the most obvious one. The other factor is frame time. If your frame time is smooth at 60 fps, you will receive a new frame every 16.67 milliseconds. But a PC can reliably deliver smooth fps while delivering inconsistent frame times. This leads to stuttering. The 9800X3D’s frame times are noticeably the best, across a wide variety of games. They’re downright buttery. It’s a definite improvement even versus the 7800X3D, making the newer chip the better buy despite the higher price. Intel’s 14900K and 14900KS provide pretty jittery frame times by comparison. So I wouldn’t seriously consider any other comparably priced CPU, at least for gaming. For productivity workloads, there are definitely scenarios where the 14900K (and the 285K) is superior. But for gaming, it’s not even close.Plus the Ryzen chips put out a lot less heat, so you’ll be fine with an inexpensive air cooler. I use a Thermalright Peerless Assassin, and I get temps in the low 50s C when I play Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. You can get that cooler for less than $40 bucks, and it will cool this chip very quietly. Whereas a 14900K should probably be paired with an all-in-one cooler. This just makes the value proposition of the 14900K that much worse.
I recently picked up the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and I’ve been pretty blown away by its performance. First off, the 8-core, 16-thread setup is perfect for both gaming and multitasking. Whether I’m gaming, editing videos, or running multiple apps at once, this thing handles everything like a champ.
The real star of the show, though, is the 3D V-Cache technology. You can definitely feel the difference in gaming, especially in titles that rely on fast cache. I’ve seen smoother frame rates and better overall performance, and I’m hitting higher frames in some games compared to my last CPU. It’s like AMD took what was already a beast of a chip and made it even better for gaming. If you’re someone who plays a lot of AAA games, you’re going to notice the performance boost, especially in open-world and CPU-heavy titles.
The boost clock hitting up to 5.0 GHz is impressive too, so it’s got plenty of single-core performance when you need it. And even though this chip packs a punch, I’ve found it to be pretty power-efficient compared to some of the higher-end options, with a 120W TDP. That said, if you’re pushing it hard, make sure you’ve got good cooling in place to keep everything running smoothly.
Compatibility with DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 makes this CPU a solid pick for future-proofing your system, especially if you’re building a rig that will last for a few years. It’s also running on the AM5 socket, so I’m looking forward to future upgrades without having to worry about a complete system overhaul.
Honestly, if you’re looking for a chip that’s got great gaming performance, solid multitasking ability, and the potential for some serious future-proofing, the 9800X3D is a fantastic choice. Sure, it’s a little pricey, but for what it delivers, I think it’s worth every penny.
The AMD Ryzen 9 9800X3D is an absolute powerhouse. From the moment I installed it into my system, the performance leap was palpable.
**Gaming**: This CPU excels with its 3D V-Cache technology. Games run smoother than ever, with significantly reduced load times and increased frame rates in even the most demanding titles. Titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Flight Simulator run like a dream, with settings cranked to the max without a hitch.
**Productivity**: For content creators, the 9800X3D doesn't disappoint. Rendering times in Blender or Premiere Pro are cut down dramatically, making it a beast for video editing, 3D modeling, and more. The multi-core performance is stellar, ensuring that multitasking feels effortless.
**Cooling and Efficiency**: Despite its high performance, it maintains surprisingly low temperatures under load, thanks to the innovative architecture. It's also quite power-efficient for its capabilities, which is a bonus for anyone concerned about energy consumption.
**Overclocking**: There's room for enthusiasts to push the limits even further. It overclocks well, giving you that extra edge when you need it, although the out-of-the-box performance is already top-notch.
**Compatibility**: No issues here. It worked seamlessly with my existing AM5 motherboard after a BIOS update, and the support from AMD has been commendable.
In summary, the Ryzen 9 9800X3D is the ultimate choice for anyone looking for peak performance in both gaming and professional applications. It's not just an upgrade; it's a transformation of your computing experience. Highly recommended!

The 8-core, 16-thread architecture provides incredible speed and efficiency, making my daily tasks a breeze. I've noticed a significant boost in overall system performance, and it's even more impressive during intensive tasks. The processor stays cool and runs quietly, even under heavy load, which is a huge plus.
Installation was straightforward, and I didn't encounter any issues. Just make sure to get a good aftermarket cooler, as this processor doesn't include one.
Overall, the AMD RYZEN 7 9800X3D is a fantastic investment for anyone looking to upgrade their system. Highly recommended for gamers, content creators, and power users alike!
AMD a frappé fort !
The delivery took almost a month, but I guess it was on pre-order. Was keeping my finger crossed after hearing DOA CPU in the news
When it arrives - Hooked up with Asrock X870E Nova Wifi mobo, cooled by Lianli GA2 Performance on Rad 7900XTX in Lianli 011D EVO case - Running on Win 11x64 installed without a hitch. - XPG DDR5 2x16 was boosted to 6000 with PBO enable
No compatibility issue so far. Did some gaming for few hours, no stutter or hang up. Will update later after tweaking and getting some milage out of the combo

I got free expedited shipping, the package looked like it had been stepped on but honestly that was most likely the Australian Courier. CPU worked fine, if I ever need another I'll get it here lol.
