AppBrain, the web-based app-finder site, has added more categories to sort popular Android software. The site already had top lists for what was hot now, just uploaded, or by app type. You could find out what was hot this minute or this week, and what apps were top-rated.
Now you can also see what apps are popular in 16 different countries, which are the top picks by gender, and by age groups (although Youngest, 20s, 30s, and “Older people” may demonstrate that the site designers don’t really care about anyone over 39). Just click the “More” button on the right of the tabs (it’s above the circle in the screenshot). Check out their blog for more information.
More filtering has been added; you can now select paid, free, new, updated, and price reduced apps within categories as well. Categories are listed on the left side of the screen after you choose a filter on the main page.
If you haven’t already checked out the AppBrain site, you should. It not only gives you more ways to find out about the apps you didn’t know you needed, but it also lets you install them with one click, using their Fast Web Installer app. You also need to install the AppBrain app to access the site quickly from your phone. QR codes are available when searching the site from a full-sized computer.
It also syncs your app list, so if you end up either giving your phone a factory reset or moving to another Android phone, just sign in and AppBrain has your app list waiting for you! As the not-so-proud owner of a very flaky DROID X, I can tell you what a lifesaver (or at least timesaver) this has been.
