AT&T hasn’t exactly been one of Android’s biggest promoters for obvious reasons. Apple’s exclusive partnership with them must’ve carried a lot of weight in deciding if and when to start selling Android phones on its network.
As Android phones became more and more popular, AT&T didn’t want to be the only ones missing this opportunity, so they started selling some Android phones that weren’t exactly some of the most high end Android phones out there. But you have to give them credit for trying.
Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA is yet another phone that continues AT&T’s Android series. The XPERIA X10 was the most popular phone model in Japan in 2009, and even though it’s coming a little late to the American soil, it should add some diversity and sell pretty well with its price tag of $149.99, starting August 15.
The phone and *still* carries the 1.6 version of Android, even though it was launched a year ago, but Sony Ericsson promises to update it to 2.1 in the next few months, and later to Android 2.2.
