Cellpassion received this photo of the Motorola Quench XT5.  Sure looks like illustration this came from a user guide, and those buttons under the screen tell us Moto’s got Yet Another Android Phone.  But… whoa, a trackball?  Seriously?  The trackball with the Send and End keys make this phone look like the love child of the Nexus One and the old Blackberry Curve.

Cellpassion thinks of this phone as “the tablet version of the Backflip,” since it has the same screen and camera. The specs say Android 2.1 (Eclair) and as for memory, 256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM.  Where’s this phone headed?  Here’s a hint: Cellpassion is an India-based mobile phone site.  The giveaway was the phone’s price was in rupees, helpfully (well not really) abbreviated Rs.

Here’s the specs:

OS: Android 2.1 (‰clair)
Band/Modes: WCDMA 900/1900/2100, GSM 850/900/1800/1900, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps (Category 7/8), EDGE Class 12
Weight: 114 g
Dimensions: 56 x 114 x 13 mm
Display: 3.2″ 480—320 HVGA 262k
Battery: 1270 mAh
GSM Talktime: 8.2 hours
GSM Standby Time: 23.3 days
WCDMA Talktime: 6.4 hours
WCDMA Standby Time: 22.7 days
Others: FM radio, DivX video playback

Curiously missing from this list is the CPU.

Engadget sees this phone as “low to midrange of the crowded Android arena.” They didn’t figure out where it’s launching but predicted it wasn’t the US because of the bands not being 3G.  The original Quench was sold worldwide, but known stateside as the CLIQ XT, so they expect a similar phone for the US market.  Perhaps the XT5 will be sold throughout the world, while the XT3 referred to in the FCC documents is headed for AT&T?
