It is now easier than ever to root your phone. Universal Androot is an application that allows you to root and unroot your phone with the click of a button. The best part is that even after you root your device, you can still get OTA updates to your device. Also, many Android phones are supported and more will be added soon.
According to the developer, the same methodology used to root the Droid 2 was used in this app for other Android devices. See the list below:

Those of you looking to snag this program will not find it in the Android Market. You will need to follow this link to the XDA site to download. I have seen many positive results posted. Give it a try if you dare!
