The Android Tablet rumor mill brings us more information about Toshiba’s offering.  Previously identified as the SmartPad, Notebook Italia now informs us that the 10 inch tablet will be called the Folio 100.  SmartPad is a designator for Toshiba’s tablet line.  The device definitely looks like an iPad with the standard Android buttons.

Here’s  some specs for us to mull over.  The tablet will be shipped with Android OS 2.2 (Froyo), and ready to run Flash 10.1 on its capacitive touch screen.  Try downloading that, Apple!  On the hardware side, the processor is NVIDIA’s Tegra 250.  That’s a dual core ARM Cortex A9 MPCORE, and NVIDIA wants you to call it a mobile web processor.  It can run up to 1 GHz and can power HD video to 1080p.  With a 1024 x 600 display resolution on all this real estate, how good will HD video look?

Most of the other specs are what you’d expect to see: Bluetooth, 3G, WiFi 802.1 b/g/n, a USB 2.0 port, an HDMI port, 16 GB of internal storage, and removable storage up to 32 MB (hmmm, is it a microSD card?)  The webcam is a nicely-sized 1.3 megapixels, and it’s all powered by a 1020 mAh battery, claiming 7 hours of “mixed use.”  I’m suspecting that battery will be undersized, given how much the display of a smartphone can chew up battery life.  Both the Motorola DROID X and the Samsung Galaxy S smartphones (much smaller displays!) are equipped with a 1500 mAh battery.

The Toshiba is also thin: only 14mm deep, and weighs in at 760 grams.  It’s thus just a tiny amount thicker and bigger and heavier than that iPad.

The Folio 100 also has a docking port.  Here’s a photo of the dock itself (above phone shows the tablet already docked).

The Toshiba tablet is expected to make its debut this Friday at IFA in Berlin, the consumer electronics show.  There will be other Android tablets competing for attention, including the eagerly awaited 7 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab.
