LG Previews Optimus Chic at IFA, Some Specs

Stop me if you’ve seen this phone before.

You have, you just may not have seen all of it.   The LG E720 had already been leaked over a Polish blog, but here it is at IFA in Berlin, securely glassed-in where nobody can see if it’s running Android OS 2.2.  And now it’s got a stage name, the LG Optimus Chic.  Did you remember that these were announced back in July, to be released “second half of 2010”?  Both of them, the LG Optimus Chic and the Optimus One would be Android 2.2 (Froyo) devices.  The Chic is the entry-level model.

Specs were leaked for the E720, so here’s a quick rundown.  It’s got a 3.2 inch capacitive touchscreen, with a so-so resolution of 240 x 400 (although at least one commenter insisted it was 320 x 480).  Remember, this is a budget phone.  It has WiFi, but only 802.11 b/g.  Yup, no type n despite the Froyo capable of running it.  There’s Bluetooth.  There is a microSD slot, but no mention of whether LG will throw in a card for it.  There’s GPS and an accelerometer built in.

There’s a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus.  All I could find on video was “Yes.”  Does that mean it plays videos or that the camera can shoot same?  No specs given on video quality, although the CPU (below) can run video at 30 fps in WVGA quality.  Then again it can also handle an 8 megapixel camera.

The CPU clocks 600 MHz, and it’s a Qualcomm MSM7227.  This chipset was introduced more than a year and a half ago, and announced as innards for low-cost smartphones.  Other devices that have this CPU are the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and the Mini Pro, the Kyocera Zio, and the 3UK ZTE Racer.

Meanwhile, we’re still waiting to see what LG will announce on September 14th.
