It’s never too late for a Christmas present, and it looks like everyone with a Samsung Epic 4G on Sprint will be getting theirs the day after. The 4G device, released with Android OS 2.1, will finally join Sprint’s other 4G beast, the Evo, with an Android 2.2 (Froyo) OTA (Over The Air update).
An anonymous source leaked the screen shot seen above to Phone Arena, showing the official Froyo update slated to go into effect starting on December 26th. Of course you might not get the upgrade right away, with Sprint gradually rolling it out over 4 days, but it should definitely show itself by New Year’s Day.
There’s only a few days of waiting to go, so keep your eyes peeled for the notification, or if you get restless you can always keep manually checking. The Froyo update will bring plenty of improvement for the Epic, very similar to what the Evo 4G recieved including:
- Upgrade of the OS from Eclair (2.1) to Froyo (2.2.1)
- Ability to install applications to external memory
- Improved Bluetooth device support
- Bluetooth Voice Dialing
- Flash Player 10.1
- GPS Enhancements
