In the Android platform, there are number of smartphones and tablets launching, along with new applications, added to the Android Market since last year. According to Eric Chu, Android’s platform manager, Google is unhappy with the lack of sales of paid applications in the Market. Mr. Chu spoke at the Inside Social Apps conference held in San Francisco this week, by giving a very broad outline of Google’s plan for the Android Market this year.
The first move for the new year is Android In-App Payments system. This system would enable developers to sell their products and services within the application and allows users to purchase and pay for the applications themselves. According to Mr. Chu, this new payment system will work on the majority of Android devices available. He also added that helping the developers in monetizing their products is an important target for Android and would make the payment system work towards the success of the Android Market. Google had delayed the launch of the Android In-App Payments system due to lack of feedback from developers, as they were occupied with their applications for Christmas.
Well the good news is that Android In-App Payments system will be launching soon and therefore, users will be able to make payments themselves. According to Mr. Chu, Google will be creating billing arrangements with carriers, same as already arranged with AT&T. He also added that carrier billing would be the lowest friction model as there will be other modes of payment available in the future.
There are different kinds of applications available in the Market due to Android’s acceptance policy. Mr. Chu said that they have a team at Android to deal with removal of applications which violate the Market’s terms of service. The team will implement security measures that would check for malware, to avoid infecting your Android devices.
Knowing this, it is good to see that Google have calmed themselves and focussed on the bugs/issues that are affecting the consumers. This is something to look forward to. Hoping that the improvements of the Android Market will go global. For more details, check here.
