Gingerbread OTA Update Rolling Out to Nexus One Very Soon

It’s been overheard at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week that Nexus One owners will FINALLY be getting Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It was expected to be available to Nexus One weeks after it was first announced three months ago. I heard there were some security issues with Gingerbread, so I assume that’s what was holding up its release. I for one would rather wait than to have some hacker get into my phone.

A rep from MobileCrunch was surrounded by Googlers in Barcelona, and heard one of them mention Gingerbread arriving to the Nexus One. He jumped on it, and asked for clarification, but the source held his tongue. The rep was hungry for more information, and spoke with some other independent sources who claimed Gingerbread will be rolled out Over-the-Air to Nexus One smartphones later this week or early next.

Oh goodness gracious folks, let’s hope this one is for real. All of us Nexus One owners (myself included) have been waiting patiently, but to make matters worse we were constantly hearing false rumors. I anticipated Froyo’s release almost daily, and learned my lesson. I put Gingerbread out of my mind until I actually see my Nexus One give me the OTA update.
