The Motorola Atrix 4G, the HSPA+ smartphone with the wicked cool laptop dock accessory, is now available for you to purchase at AT&T for $199 on a two-year contract, or $499 without any obligation.
You can also pick it up for a little less at some other locations. Both RadioShack and Amazon are supposedly taking orders for the dual core smartphone for the slightly lower $149 for the same two-year contract with AT&T. (That’s said, I couldn’t find the Atrix on RadioShack’s website at all, and Amazon says they are back-ordered 8-9 days.) And if you want “Always the lowest prices, always” then Wal-Mart indeed has the Atrix 4G on contract for $129. Best Buy has it for the same price as you’ll pay AT&T for the contract, although when I asked about related accessories I got this “Product SKU not found” error:
This device has been in the news because really does break ground in what a smartphone is packing and what it can do. Winner of bith CNET and Engadget’s Best New Smartphone at CES, it offers AT&T’s HSPA+ (what they call 4G, let’s not get into that again) network ability, which should be up and running by early March. It features a dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, with each core running at 1 GHz. It’s packing a full 1 gigabyte of RAM, 16 GB of ROM (14.9 accessible), and its 4 inch capacitive touchscreen is qHD resolution, or 540 x 960. About the only disappointing launch feature on this loaded device is that it’s got Android OS 2.2 (Froyo), rather than the latest and greatest 2.3 (Gingerbread). However, since we’ve heard that that release may end up being for the Samsung Nexus S exclusively, Atrix 4G purchasers should reasonably expect an OS 2.4 Gingerbread upgrade at some point as this is AT&T’s flagship Android smartphone.
The aforementioned laptop dock is a mighty pricey $499 by itself but you can pick it up as a package with the phone for the same $499, as long as you sign one of those two-year contracts. Here’s the current promotion that pops up on the AT&T page, which works out to $498 for the package, but requires a mail-in rebate:
