LG Optimus 3D Moves to AT&T and becomes the AT&T Thrill 4G
Here’s another round-up of what’s out there in reviews, photos, and video for AT&T’s Thrill 4G. This is an LG Optimus 3D when it’s hanging out with Big Blue, or do we now have to call it Big Blue and Magenta?
This device has a lot in common with the HTC EVO 3D that was announced today: dual core processor (TI OMAP instead of Qualcomm Snapdragon), two 5 MP cameras for 3D recording, a 4.3 inch display (although the LG model is WVGA instead of HTC’s qHD). There’s also 8 GB of RAM and half a gig of ROM. LG is planning to ship the phone with Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) and an update to OS 2.3 (Gingerbread) would follow Real Soon.
Anyway, I’m sure you’re eager to hear how well the 3D is implemented in the Thrill, and how well it looks, feels and operates. So, direct from CTIA in Orlando, Florida, here are the hands-on reports from the hands-on reviewers!
Android Central takes on the AT&T Thrill 4G
Android Central didn’t have much to say about the phone itself, other than the software isn’t final yet. But they had plenty of pictures to share, plus this video.

BGR takes on the AT&T Thrill 4G
BGR also has a few photos and some video for us to enjoy. They also note that despite being a 4G device, AT&T is doing it wrong. Hopefully AT&T will properly deal with HSPA+ by the time the Thrill is released this summer.
We were not allowed to really poke and prod the Thrill all that much – it was running an international version of LG’s 3D-optimized, Android operating system – but we did get to handle the device a bit and snap some stills for you to scrutinize. The 3D experience the Thrill provides, which AT&T seems very proud of, really is nice. The stereoscopic display emits a bright and clear picture in both 2D and 3D modes and the handset will be optimized for 3D gaming – we saw a short demo of a 3D golf game and were told it will ship with the YouTube 3D app. As far as the overall feel of the device is concerned: the Thrill really is extremely sturdy – if you’ve been lucky enough to fondle the Optimus 3D they are nearly identical.

Engadget takes on the AT&T Thrill 4G

The video samples seen during the demo — which, sadly, you’ll not be able to enjoy in all their three-dimensional glory — are a pretty convincing argument for just how impressive this tech has gotten in such a short time.

Their build of the software was still undergoing testing, so they were iffy about giving us the full walk-through, but the golf game and 3D media browser worked just fine. Even the hardware was in pretty early stages, considering the unit on demo didn’t have any branding.
The LG Thrill 4G runs on AT&T’s LTE network, and supports glasses-less 3D in a few select apps. It also comes with twin 5 megapixel cameras so you can shoot your own 3D still pictures and video. …
The glasses-less 3D display indeed works, but I still find it gimmicky, and of questionable interest to third-party app developers. End-users who have already invested in a 3D TV may love to have a stereoscopic camera on their phone, as well as be able to shunt out their created media to the big screen over DLNA. I’m glad someone’s making the first step to get 3D displays and technology onto smartphones, and it may very well become a feature we take for granted in a few years, but for now the success of the Thrill 4G will rely entirely on eager early adopters.
