Samsung Galaxy S II Shows Fragmentation has a Hardware Side

Some of you may have heard of fragmentation, and rightfully you should have seeing as how Android OS fragmentation is such a hotly debated item. But now there is a new fragmentation issue being added to the mix. That’s right, hardware fragmentation. The new concerns come after numerous rumors of the new Samsung Galaxy S II, arguably one of the sexiest phones coming out, will have two different versions.  Supposedly one version will be sporting the new Samsung based Exynos processor, and yet another sporting the new Tegra 2 by NVIDIA. Now this may be all fine and dandy, but reports are coming, along with concerns, of certain applications being tied to processors such as the Netflix/Qualcomm deal. This doesn’t bode well for updates both on the android and the applications side.

More Hardware Fragmentation Displayed

Now this may be old news to you already, but something that you may not have heard of is that Samsung may also be excluding the Super AMOLED Plus, in favour for an SLCD display. This is rumoured for the same i9103 version of the phone that will carrying the Tegra 2. The thought is that Samsung is trying to create a lower-cost version of the Galaxy S II.

For now no one really knows for sure, so we’ll be here to keep you posted.
