Powerhouse Motorola Superphone Atrix Comes to Bell Canada, but with HSUPA disabled

Many Canadian Android enthusiasts are excited at the eagerly awaited release of the Motorola Atrix on Bell Canada. But the excitement is tempered by the same disappointment the Atrix brought to its US release on AT&T – HSUPA (High-Speed Uplink Packet Access) is disabled.

The Atrix is HSUPA-ready, but throttled to 400 Kbps!

The Atrix is one of the hottest Android phones on the market today. Bell touts the Atrix as the “all-powerful superphone”, and its specs certainly meet up to the hype – it’s loaded with a dual-core processor, front- and rear-facing webcam, and 4″ qHD display, and a biometric fingerprint scanner! And Motorola’s specs show that it’s capable of achieving speeds of up to 14 Mbps. But apparently, Canada Bell, like AT&T, has disabled superfast upload speeds.  Canadian users, like their American counterparts, are none too pleased to be stuck at 3G speeds of 400 Kbps, even while connected to the 4G network.

Bell is offering the Atrix,  for $599.95 with no contract, and subsidized prices running down to $169.95 with a three-year contract. But will smartphone fanatics go for a carrier-throttled version of the phone? Let’s hear your thoughts below.
