HTC EVO 3D Officially Announced at CTIA 2011

Sprint has just announced the HTC EVO 3D smartphone, as had been rumored.  3D refers to the device’s unique 3D video recording and playback ability, without needing special 3D goggles or glasses for the effect.  But that short, simple name hides a number of powerful features besides 3D video.

HTC EVO 3D has 4G and 2 Cores!

The EVO 3D is a top-end smartphone, like its predecessor, the HTC EVO 4G.  Powered by a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon 2 chipset, with each core at a blazing 1.2 GHz, this phone is also ready to take advantage of Sprint’s 4G (WiMAX) network.  The HTC EVO 3D has a built-in 3G/4G mobile hotspot allowing 8 other devices to access the Sprint network.

HTC EVO 3D Specs are Spectacular

Yes, 3D, dual core, and 4G, all in one  unit.  This is also the first ever device announced which will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 2 MSM8660 System on a Chip (SoC).  That includes dual-channel LP DDR memory and the Adreno 225 Graphics Processor.  This is one fast operator.

The 3D capture effect is arranged with two 5 MP cameras, there’s a 1.3 MP front-facing camera, and 3D video plays at 720p.  2D video is in 1080p resolution, and video can be directed via DLNA or HDMI to an HDTV. A nd of course, the display is a generous 4.3 inches, with QHD video quality (960 x 540).

The HTC EVO 3D has 4 GB of RAM, 1 GB of ROM, ships with an 8 GB microSD card for additional storage (which can be replaced with up to a 32 GB card) and has one of the most charge-packing batteries I’ve seen yet: 1730 mAh.

But wait, there’s more with the HTC EVO 3D

It ships with Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread), the latest version for smartphones, and the latest version of HTC Sense, the custom user interface HTC layers over the Android OS.

In addition, you’ll find all the Google mobile services you’d expect, plus “access to” Blockbuster OnDemand media app, which includes access to 3D movies as well as 2D.  You can also “upgrade” the installed Qik app for video chat service.

Blockbuster On Demand Provides Access to the Latest Movies

HTC EVO 3D will be the first 3D handset pre-loaded with the Blockbuster On Demand® mobile application that has access to one of the largest catalogs of movies, including 3D titles. This movie store in your pocket offers video optimized for viewing on HTC EVO 3D’s 4.3-inch screen.
