New Galaxy Tab Coming in Samsung Unpacked Event

Gearing up for their upcoming Unpacked 2011 event, Samsung has released a new, 30 second video teasing a new Tab, along with the numbers 78910. Since they have an existing 7 inch version and they announced the 10.1 inch model at MWC could the 89 represent the rumored 8.9 inch variation of their tablet?

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9: Gingerbread and Custom UI?

The video doesn’t give a lot to go on, but one thing that you can take from it is that it looks like the new device (and possibly the Galaxy Tab 10.1?) will be running some variation of TouchWiz optimized for tablets.

Speculate along with me here for a second: Does this mean that the Galaxy Tab 8.9 could be running Gingerbread (Android 2.3) instead of Honeycomb (3.0)? If not, then this will be the first tablet to come out with a custom interface (TouchWiz 4.0?) running on top of the Honeycomb platform. That will most likely be a deal-breaker for those of us that want the vanilla experience, especially considering how elegant Honeycomb is.

That really only leaves us one option – wait until March 22 and find out what Samsung has up their sleeve.  Do you think the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is what’s coming next week?
