BlackBerry Playbook Runs Android Apps

The BlackBerry Playbook has made its official debut and the WiFi tablet is available online and in stores now. The Playbook is running the new QNX designed BlackBerry OS and it does indeed run Android Apps. It is entering what is becoming a very competitive tablet market facing competition from the the iPad 2, the onslaught of Android Honeycomb entries, and the up coming HP/Palm tablets.

Motorola Xoom Availability

As the Playbook enters the North American market the Honeycomb rocking Motorola Xoom begins its rollout worldwide. It is being released by Canadian and Australian carriers in May, no international dates for the Playbook have been released yet. Both tablets have $599 32Gb models with the Playbook offering additional 16Gb and 64Gb models for $499 and $699 respectively.

RIM is smart to introduce the Playbook at three different price points. Motorola got off to a slow start by only offering a more expensive 32Gb model. The BlackBerry brand still holds a lot of weight, do you think RIM will be successful in the tablet market?
