The T-Mobile G2X or the HTC Sensation 4G: Which T-Mobile Device Rules?

So say you’re a fan of T-Mobile, and you want a great Android smartphone on that carrier.  You’ve got a number of great choices, but which one would you say is their top of the line Android phone?  Andrew Kameka over at Androinica compared the T-Mobile G2X with the HTC Sensation 4G to determine which phone ought to be sporting the heavyweight crown.

The T-Mobile G2x

Made by LG, the T-Mobile G2X is certainly impressive.  Powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 2 SoC, the G2X is dual core and sports dual cameras.  The front-facing camera is a generous 1.3 megapixels, better resolution than most phones where the video chat camera is skimped on.  Another generous item in the hardware spec list is the internal storage, 8 Gigabytes.

For the OS, there’s good news and bad news.  The good news is no skins or user interfaces to interfere with the stock Android experience, but the bad news is that stock experience is Android OS 2.2 (Froyo).

The HTC Sensation 4G

This phone has a lot of Android folks intrigued: you may remember its early press under the codename Pyramid.  You’re still going to have to read press about it, because not only hasn’t it shipped to T-Mobile stores yet, they don’t even have a confirmed release date.  The screen is a little larger (4.3 versus 4 inches) than the G2X, the resolution is better (qHD vs WVGA) but the internal storage is much, much smaller; just one Gigabyte instead of 8.  It’s also a dual core device, but it’s a Qualcomm MSM8260 SoC which has been overclocked to 1.2 GHz.

If you like HTC Sense, you will probably like this phone.  It has the latest Sense 3.0, HTC’s custom UI.  We can assume by the time the phone ships it will have Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread); heck, it may have Android 2.4 for all we know.  That’s one advantage of waiting to ship, isn’t it?

So Which Should I Get?

Personally, I think it’s silly to compare a phone you can buy today with one that doesn’t even have a release date.  The Sensation is getting some good talk, but until you have one in your hands, can you decide to lock yourself to one phone or the other for the next two years?

Have a look at Androinica’s comparison chart, though, and see if that helps you make up your mind.
