New Kernel for HTC Thunderbolt Overclocks to 1.8 GHz

It hasn’t been long since we reported that HTC was releasing the kernel source code for the HTC Thunderbolt, and already the goodies are beginning to appear. ROMs, themes and overclocking utilities on the are on the way.

Derek Rodriguez (@drod2169) has coded a new kernel for the Thunderbolt which can be overclocked to the awe-inspiring speed of 1.8 GHz.

Astounding Quadrant Benchmarks Too!

Once this got out, @TheRealBeesley ran the new kernel through benchmarking with Quadrant, he received the unprecedented score of 2772.

No One to Blame But Yourself If You Fry Your HTC Thunderbolt

This is a true “try at your own risk” tool. Even Rodriguez tweeted:

“I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR PHONE CAN COOK STEAKS ON THE BACK OF IT. PLEASE DO NOT KEEP IT CLOCKED THAT HIGH”.

Still, we now have more of an idea of the raw power that the Thunderbolt is capable of.

And if you dare to run drod2169’s kernel, please please stop back here and tell us what you find.
