NVIDIA Tegra 3 to Power Future ASUS Tablets, More Tabs Coming

The ASUS Transformer has duly impressed, to the point that the manufacturer can’t get ahold of enough touchscreens to build more than 10,000 a month.  But future products from ASUS aren’t going to leave you content with the current offerings.

DigiTimes announced that ASUS plans more tablet PCs, including another ten and seven inch set launching within the next quarter.  But it’s the quad core tablets, running on the NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset codenamed Kal-El, that has our attention.  This chipset should deliver five times the performance of the Tegra 2, can support Extreme HD ( 2560 x 1600), has a 12 core graphics processor onboard, and, incidentally, outperformed an Intel 2 GHz Core2Duo T7200.

We don’t have any details when ASUS is planning on shipping these beautifies, but NVIDIA’s roadmap shows it appearing in tablets beginning in August (and in smartphones in time for the holidays).

More ASUS Tablets within 3 Months

The brief writeup didn’t mention which tablets would feature Android, but the Taiwanese manufacturer has already come out with 2 other Android tablets this year besides the Transformer.  Other processors mentioned for ASUS tablets are the NVIDIA Tegra 2 in the ten inch Eee Pad Slider EP102 and a Qualcomm chipset in the seven inch Eee Pad MeMo EP71. In addtion, Intel chips will be used in future ASUS tablets.  Again, no other word on what will be Windows, what will be Android, or what will run both, but we already know NVIDIA plays well with green robots.

Sure hope the touchscreen shortage issue is cleared up by then so they can actually build some quad core Android tabs!
