Rumor: 10-inch Toshiba Tab is Nexus T and Google I/O Swag?

Is this the Toshiba Nexus T, Given to Every Google I/O 2011 Attendee?

We covered the 10.1 inch Toshiba Android OS 3.0 (Honeycomb) tablet a few times, but one feature that’s always been missing  has been a product name, despite being prelisted at Best Buy.  Now comes a fascinating item from MetaLev.com that says this tablet could be no less than the next Google Nexus device.  Not only is it going to be Google’s developer tablet of choice with stock Honeycomb, all those developers heading over to Google I/O 2011 are going to find one of these in their welcome packages.

Why does Luke Hutchison (the MetaLev blogger) think this?  Because the answer to one of the @googlenexus puzzle challenges was “prismatic,” and the Toshiba tablet is the only one we know of with a prismatic lithium-ion battery.  This battery supposedly has three times the battery life of a regular LiOn battery.  Given how battery life is what makes or breaks so many devices (cough Thunderbolt cough), that could be a huge deciding factor in making this tab a winner.

So what’s the reasoning for this claim?

Here’s how Hutchison, who obviously loves solving puzzles, walks it through:

  • The @googlenexus challenge ends the day before Google I/O begins
  • The tablet will be announced at the first day keynote

It will be called Nexus T because:

  • T is for Tablet
  • T is also for Toshiba, and the S in Nexus S was for Samsung
  • T = S + 1
  • Tablet has no name to not give away it’s a Nexus device

Well, he’s convinced me.  The specs on this Wi-Fi only tablet aren’t shabby at all; dual core 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 SoC, WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution, 720p video playback and capture, 5 MP rear-facing camera, 2 MP front, USB and mini-USB ports… We’ll let you know what they’re giving out at Google I/O as soon as they start dispensing the goodies.  Be sure to follow @androidheadline on Twitter!

Video Introducing Toshiba Tablet

Yes, the person uploading it called it a Nexus T.  Looks like Hutchison’s idea has caught on.

The beginning doesn’t display very well, you can go to Toshiba’s site to watch the video in Flash.  Yes, the site is really called thetoshibatablet.com — they really do not want to give it a name.
