Featured: Android Jellybean 4.1 to debut on "Nexus 7" tablet

According to Rightware’s Power Board benchmark site, a new ASUS device named Nexus 7 running Android build JRN51B has been outed. The long rumored $199, 7 inch Nexus tablet running the next version of Android has finally been made known to the world. The ASUS manufactured tablet features a 7-inch display with 1280—768 resolution and uses NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 processor.

To add credibility to the above raw data, you see the hardware listed as “grouper”. Google has a long history of naming their official developer hardware devices after fish. The G1 was code named trout, the Nexus One was named mahimahi, the Nexus S was named herring, the Xoom was stringray and the Galaxy Nexus has the code names of tuna and maguro.

Many fans will be shocked to see the next version of Android listed as Android 4.1 as the media has been wrongfully calling it Android 5.0 for quite some time. Details are still limited, but from what we’ve heard in the past, the user experience will be focused on media consumption featuring home screens dedicated for different types of content such as music, movies, books, etc. The user interface itself should closely resemble Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

I don’t know about you, but I’m extremely excited for the ever fast approaching Google IO 2012 at the end of June.
