HTC announced today that their One X and EVO 4G LTE flagship devices have cleared the hold placed on them at U.S. customs. They were delayed earlier this month for possibly infringing upon one of Apple’s patents that required a workaround. The patent in question was related to phone numbers in the browser or elsewhere being converted into clickable links that launched into the dialer application.
HTC’s Statement
HTC has completed the review process with US Customs and HTC devices have been released, as they are in compliance with the ITC’s ruling. Future shipments should continue to enter the US and we are confident that we will soon be able to meet the demand for our products.
It’s not clear yet if the workaround where HTC created custom builds of Android for the devices was necessary, but either way they passed. This has to be good news for those that were waiting for arguably the two hottest Android devices available right now. The One X is currently listed as out of stock from AT&T, but that should change shortly as shipments are resumed. Sprint reportedly sent out free gel cases to those that preordered the EVO 4G LTE, but had their shipments delayed due to the customs hold.
