First Thoughts

I picked up this phone after checking out the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. This is the upgrade from the nexus s of course. I was interested to see if the LTE Sprint version was the same as the LTE Verizon version. I will go back and forth a bit to see if it is.

The Looks

Well there is not a lot to say in the looks department if you have used the Verizon version, for those of you who have not, this is a pretty sweet phone for Sprint customers. You get a flat grey phone, the back is slightly rubberized and shows it in its looks. It is big and you can clearly see the Sprint and Samsung labeling on the rear of the phone.

The Hardware/Screen

It comes with a Dual core, 1200 MHz, TI OMAP 4460, it is fast, one of the firsts in its class when it came out on Verizon and it still keeps ticking on Sprint. It also has 1024 MB of RAM like a lot of phones I have been reviewing lately. There are 32000 MB internal which of course is 32 gig. There is no SD card support, much like the nexus s before it. There is a graphic processor installed and it rocks for gaming.

A 4.65 inch screen is pretty awesome, one of the first ones, it still kind of equates to 4.5 still as the soft buttons at the bottom take up that little bit of extra space. There are 316 ppi with 720 x 1280 pixels in the big screen. It is pentile and that is a bad thing to some people but with the ppi you still get an awesome resolution.

The Battery

You get 7.50 hours of talk on one battery with a 1850 mAh battery. I have noticed it lasts the day with what I do, I consider myself a heavy users. Constant Google+ and sporadic Facebook/Twitter. Emails are always coming in and calls get made through out the day. I talk to the editor of this very site and friends via Google Talk here and there and you get a good days worth.

The Operating System/Software

Stock Android 4.0! Ice Cream Sandwich and of course in this version of the phone you get updates, glorious updates to the phone. This Galaxy Nexus gets updates to fix battery issues due to connections. 4.0.4 is the version, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is still on an older version.

The Browsing, Camera and Video

Browsing is pretty cool as you get the stock ICS browser as well as Google Chrome beta. Chrome beta is the real key for me as I use it daily and it just works better. Speeds are good and on Sprint it is unlimited.

You get a 5 mp camera on the rear, it has an aperture of 2.8, but not the greatest sensor. The rear video is 1080p HD at 30fps. The front camera on the other hand is 1.3 mp and great for Google Hangouts and Talk Video chat, both have become better as of late.

The Call/Data Quality

Sprint gets great calls and data in my area, my only problem with the data on this phone is that it is either 3G or LTE, there is no wimax backwards compatibility. There is also no LTE from Sprint yet that I can tell. I did not get any LTE at all.

Summary

Pros:

Nice Camera
Video is good
Google Chrome
Stock ICS
Potential of HD Voice and LTE

Cons:

NO LTE OR HD VOICE YET!
Camera is not as good as some devices being released.

Conclusions & Final Thoughts

I am pleased with stock android, that is something that is obvious if you have read a lot of my stuff, including my Google+ page. I am pleased with this phone and the OS. I would gladly take it to upgrade my nexus s, I do not know if it is necessarily future proofed but it does a good job and would last a year or even two for most people
